MPC Ren - Warranty?

Anyone know what the standard warranty is for an MPC Ren?....

As stated in the other thread my MPC has stopped turning on, and now is just flashing a blank blue screen when I hit the power switch.

I need this resolved ASAP and for as little cost as possible.....

this could tip me into NI world......I'm proppa mugged off.....

Akai warranty is 12 months in the UK. Retailer might have an additional extended warranty. Sale of goods act trumps manufacturer and retailer warranty, so you can try to make a claim under that even a few years after purchase if you feel it's reasonable to expect a product to last that long. Sale of Goods Act applies to the transaction between you and the original retailer though, not Akai.

Looks like you purchased in April 2015, so I would suggest you 1) contact Akai to see where they stand, 2) after Akai wash their hands with you contact the retailer and see what they are willing to do (remember the sales contract is between you and them, not with akai, 3) if you are getting nowhere call a consumer advice line and consider escalating the matter to small claims - they'll be able to tell you exactly what you need to do. But hopefully the threat of small claims might make the retailer relent and offer a free repair, after all it's only 16 months after purchase, gear should definitely last longer than that.

I've phoned Akai support, who were about as useful as I expected. They washed their hands and told me they'd send through some info via email on how to get it fixed - which I haven't received.

To be honest I just want it fixed....if it costs a couple of quid then so be it.....I really cant be arzed with a drawn out battle of who's gonna be held responsible....I can barely stand the thought of a weekend staring at a broken MPC.....I just want to get it up and running again....

found another who had the same issue so I emailed him.....his response:

My issue started when I moved out of state. As soon as I plugged it in...the blue light started flashing.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?....could it be a surge or something?....I'd like to know what I can do to stop it from happening again.....(if I manage to get it fixed)...

A surge could damage the components inside any electronic device. IMO everyone should be running their gear through good quality surge protection. I use a surge protected UPS which provides 30 minutes battery backup in the event of a power cut (avoiding damage to hard drives etc - it can even be set to shut down your computer automatically).

never really thought about it before.....I'll definitely be on it if I get this issue sorted....

First time I've dealt with them......they are everything I thought they'd be....

I'd probably be better of seeking advice from my gran....

Just a hunch:

Did you use a wrong power adapter? I fried one of my interfaces that way, and the display flickered in a sinilar way afterwards. Had to send it in and get a replacement unit then.

nah I did consider that I might've done that, but the MPC adapter is quite distinctive to all my others....its a different shape and has a yellow trim on the inside......

plus I plugged pretty much everything else in first, so there wasn't even any ac adapters spare....

sent it to Akai now anyway....see what happens....I'm hoping a new power supply wont be too difficult to fix

Ok so i finally got a vague diagnosis of the problem with my MPC and i replied that i need more info on what the problem is and what caused it.... . . I got this:

The main board at the rear of the unit to the right hand side was completely dead. My engineer told me firmware could’ve been installed incorrectly or another issue could’ve caues the board to die.


 

So i am none the wiser, and for all i know it could happen again in a few months

Did you have to pay to get it fixed? How much did they charge you?

Apparently they have to order the part in from Germany, so i'm waiting for a final cost but it currently stands at £71.77 (exc VAT). With the addition of labour - expected to be £15 (exc VAT).

Add in the £40 Parcel Force cost to get it sent special delivery . . . Its not pennies!

Not cheap, main boards shouldn't just randomly die after 18 months, they should fix that for free IMO, but to claim under the sale of goods act you need to prove it was their shoddy components at fault rather than user error (which is what they seem to be suggesting regarding the firmware update).

I dont really get how they can even suggest a firmware update could cause the whole board to die . . . Sounds very strange to me . .

I'd been running 1.8.1 since the day i installed the software too . . .

I bought surge protectors following your advice anyway . . .
