anyone else run into this issue of ren not retaining plugin information such as patches ?

I'm looking at a project which i used massive, fm8, and absynth5 on, midi data is there and the name of the plugin, but upon loading the project message comes on "plugin loading failed, hte plug-in file no longer exists for FM8 "

I have not moved or changed anything :hmmm:

Now your issue may be a different one: but, I had a similar issue. The problem wasn't with the Renaissance. The Komplete browser lost all links to the instrument folders. I am still not sure why it happens; but, i have witnessed it twice in a span of two years.

To resolve: rescan or manually update the instrument file links using the Komplete Browser.

I've had this issue a few times and only with NI instruments. What I have been doing to prevent this is saving the patches separately in my project folder just incase. That way if they fail to load, I have them backed up. I also do this with the entire Kontakt rack/multi that I use in a beat. Only takes up a few kb and a few extra seconds, but will save your ass one day.

thx for the tip Hell, I have no problem doing that going forward

at this point is there a way to retrieve what patches I was using or am I SOL ? I did plugin re-scan but none of the plugins play

If your issues is the same as mine:

You shouldnt be SOL. Your settings are still there in the project file. Until you restore the file links you wont get sound.

You don't rescan your plugins, you have to rescan your instrument files in the 'Komplete Browser' to rebuild the database.

If you load the plugin on a new track, can you play it? If the actual plugin is loading fine and the plugin has all of its patches, re-scanning in the plugin scanner wont help. If you can use the plugin fine, then chances are the software just doesn't remember what patch was used. In this case you will have to reload the project and reload the patch and hope you can retweak it the way you did. If you used a stock patch and didn't tweak, should be fairly simple to set back up.

I do have one issue with FM8 that even though I saved the patch, it doesn't sound the same at all as when I made it. Not sure what's causing that.

I have the same issue with NI sometimes. I think the problem is when you make changes and tweaks to presets, it recalls the preset and not your added flavors etc. I will often times just do a save as preset to the name of the session if its something I know I am wanting to call on in the future. Foolery but better safe than sorry

I have used the MPC AUDIO UNIT PLUGIN in my APPLE LOGIC PRO 9 session. The next day upon loading the MPC loaded everything just fine as software, but as a controller have stopped responding. I rebooted everything and upon a new load all the patches were GONE. I have had the enire A/B/C/D patched up and I need to work at a project ASAP. Couldnt find any answers to my issue, not I could find a folder where MPC AU PLUGIN keeps the data for this project. Very dissapointed. Thinking about selling this MPC RENAISSANCE unit if another MK2 comes out... It has been my headache since day one, even though I really love it!
AKAI PLEASE MAKE IT WORK BETTER!

I was able to retrieve my session in a project backup folder, HOWEVER it doesnt help my MPC to lose connection to the host DAW every other minute in MAC OSX 10.10.5 YOSEMITE! Its frustrating, its a nightmare!

@RobertRyda:

AUs are reportedly less likely to lose their settings, their architecture is quite capable of not losing them.

Additional data, please:
>What generation of Macbook / iMac / ... are you using?
> Do you store your projects on an external drive? HDD, USB stick, network drive, NAS, ...?
> Do you use an administrator account?
> Are there any defragmentation tools or similar running? (Rare, but I've seen those even in studio environments.)
> Firewalls or similar (LittleSnitch, MacKeeper)?
> Are your plugins legit and installed properly?

If you want to "keep" your connection, there are some simple steps to follow:
> Make sure you're not using USB-3 or USB-C ports.
> Try replacing the USB cable.
> Firmware of MPC & software version up to date?
> Did you connect your MPC (Ren? Studio silver? black? Touch?) to your computer directly or are you using a hub? Try directly if possible, if via hub use an active one with its own power suppy. Check it's USB 2.0 though.
> Fun thing: if used via sync or as a plugin, try changing MPC's sample rate. (and back). That resolved uncountable issues for me.

Hope that helped.
