mpc studio

i see that it doesn't talk a lot of the mpc studio . what you guys or girls think about it .
is the mpc studio gonna be considered like a mpc 500 a toy

Studio is more comparable to a 1000. It's cool. I'll probably get one sooner or later!

I don't know why it would be considered a toy... More like the 1000 to the Ren's 2500. Same size screen and software capabilities etc.

I hope the GUI is reflected onscreen if you're using the Studio. I wouldn't want to be seeing those 16 Q-links if I was a Studio owner!

i just don't know if the studio shows the waveform on the screen ? i see it like the 500 cause it's in the same price .

At some point Akai need to make a video showing everything being done from the controller. It might look less flashy than the software, but it would still be good to see what's happening on the LCD.

I think the Studio screen will be identical to the Ren screen!

I have already preordered the studio, dont need the Ren since I already have a 2500 that will stay hooked up also. Why wouldn't the screen look the same as the Ren, it's only the cosmetics that are different between the 2 pieces....so i thought

I think the studio will be better for me if i was to buy into the new line mpc in terms of...

1. physical size.

2. Same software as the ren

3. Even if i had the ren i will be using another sound interface. (including the midi ports) And the legacy model emulation isn't something i'm really interested in. As software(plugins) in my opinion can easily do this....

4. I'd mainly use it to chop samples and rephrase stuff live with the pads and sparingly use filter pitch and volume. So i don't need the extra qlinks..

I might end up copping the studio if I don't have the money for the Ren right away.

I noticed it too. They seem to treat the Studio like an afterthought or the kid that was an accident. It's obvious that the Ren is their "flagship" product but the Studio gets very little coverage even though a lot of people with older MPC units, who may not be interested the audio I/O or "component emulations" of the Ren or who may wish to be mobile, are only interested in the Studio. They seem to be approaching it as if pitching the Ren to high priority clients, even though I'm inclined to think that there are many potential professional buyers who feel that "money is not an issue" but who still don't want nor need the Ren.

I can't say if it's going to be a toy or not, that's yet to be seen. However, I feel that Akai needs to start showing more of the other products or they will risk losing some buyers. Even if the screens are the same, demonstrations of a specific product does wonders for morale and buyer confidence by allowing them to actually see it in use to gauge build quality and workflow. I don't like Maschine very much (cool device though) but I give NI credit for how well they presented and sold their units. I don't consider myself a hard to convince person when products are exceptional but I'm not pre-ordering shit that I wasn't able to beta-test or see detailed presentations of beforehand. They will need to do a lot more to persuade (which is their design and marketing teams' job) those like me whom were already a bit lined eyed and doubtful of the new MPC units to begin with.

My two cents is that the studio will be just as successful as maschine. In fact as a maschine owner and user the studio will open up a lot of hardware users to the ease and workflow of using software based instruments but still retain hardware feel. From working with maschine I no longer had any bias against software sequencer and lost some of my strictly hardware ethos. I still prefer the hardware sequencing of my mpc and from time to time when back to it. If the mpc version of maschine ever came out I thought I would buy it. Akai started down that road I heard thur the grapevine and I welcomed the possibilities. However from working with maschine, ableton, and other software seqs, mixers, envelopes and effects knob controllers were essential to get away from the mouse and screen. Maschine plus was the eight knobs and buttons automapped over the sampler and instruments that give it an huge advantage. Still ion the end I preferred a wider, more extensive amount of dedicated knobs and buttons like my 4k unit for user control so I'm going with the Ren. Studio will be a great portable mpc with infinite possibilites just as successful as any other gear on the market.

It would be nice if the studio had a pop up screen like the ren.

studio uses the same screen and pads as the MPC Renaissance.

the studio's getting a minor facelift, that's why it hasnt been in the press as much. basic look is the same, but buttons are gonna be way better.
