Hello Dan glad to see you back.

I asked before in the other thread whether the new mpcs will have step edit number system like the previous mpcs? I understand that they have seq edit like piano roll and drum roll. But the number data values are a great plus for mpc users.

And will the mpcs have the program matrix for key group programs?

1. no, not for 1.0. The original intention was to replace it with the step sequencer, as you could go in and add or remove notes using the pads, but we realize that people want the old way too. it will be in an update, but not 1.0.

2. you mean the program matrix editor like the MPC4000 so you can do keysplits? No, not for 1.0, but if there's a call for it, we can look in to putting it in.

hope that answers your questions. thanks.

I see But does the piano and drum editor at least shows the note position at least unlike maschine? When I drag or adjust a note like in logic, I would be able to have a pop up window showing the timing?

Actually I meant for routing lfos, envelopes to different parameters. Thanks for the info though much appreciated. 8)

Whenever the update with the added program matrix is release I hope it is something akin to Ableton Sampler. The 4k can do some of the basic modulation of Ableton sampler with looping sustain samples. But with software the parameters are much more extensive for designing our own sounds. Though I work with a lot more software samplers these days I would much prefer to work within the mpc format when possible for sequencing.

each keygroup has a dedicated LFO which can be routed to pitch, filter, amp or panning. you can have 128 keygroups, so in theory you can have 128 LFOs. each can have its own shape, speed, or can lock to a different quantized rate.

is that what you mean?

Yes and being able to assign mod wheel to destinations, assigning a source lfo to start, and one source to several destinations at the same time. And then using my qlink to control the depth of the source. The last part of the video called midi covers the part I'm interested it's the program matrix on the 4k.

It is just a thought and useful for creating soundscapes turning the sampler into a synth, but it isn't a dealbreaker I work with phrases a lot too.

Yes, I think you are referring to the 4k modulation matrix. From the vids I do not think the Ren has this or the second LFO and free envelope. Instead you get a single lfo with fixed assignments as mentioned. The second envelope is fixed to the filter. You also get fixed assignments for velocity to sample start, attack, cutoff and filter envelope amount. On the whole program level, velocity can also modulate pitch, pan and amp. I think the Ren is based strictly on the MPC 5k. I don't think the 4k features where considered. Not a deal breaker but the Mod matrix would have been nice.

What do you think B? Are you coming back to the mpc family or staying with the maschine? Both are cool and I may use them both just the program modulation like Sampler and the 4k is nice with the addition of a midi keyboard.

I will get it as soon as it drops. I work a lot with maschine but I have been wanting a dedicated surface about with the sequencing simplicity of the mpc for a minute. Maschine clearly showed the future with the vsts and such. Like Knock and others say competition is good for us all. Though I haven't seen program modulation in any videos I was hoping that Dan would surprise us.

I hear you. For me, having one product does not make me hate another. I just can't justify buying another production box until it has proven itself.

@Xparis Would also like to ask if these new MPC's will still allow you to record sustain notes "as played" when holding the note past the end of the sequence? If so, will it still playback properly when using next sequence?

Hey xparis

Will the parts per quarter note (ppqn) be adjustable? This is a very nice feature to ad becuz the old sequencers on the 3000 was 196 i think, that would play a major key of getting that vintage sound and groove on the old mpcs, since the the newer models run on 960, that groove wont flow the same. I know the beat thang has this feat , im not a fan of the product but this one feature is the only thing goin for it and i would love the mpc to implement it.

To clarify, I am talking about the truncate duration preference.

Thats a cool feature.

With the exception of the MPC 4000 and 5000, all other MPCs have 96 ppqns. The MPC 4000 includes an option to choose 96 ppqns or 960 ppqns.
