Out of many topics on the Ren today, we have been discussing the fact that some believe Akai is resting on the laurels of their past and not bringing any new technology or innovation to the MPC line.

So share your ideas. What type of technology and innovating ideas do you have to take the Ren to the next level. *Note - being a true hybrid has already been discussed; you can't claim that idea as your own.

I'd like to see some of the offline processes become realtime with the ability to automate them. It might not be that appealing to Hip Hoppers, but for other genres it would be a bonus. I'm thinking along the lines of the Octatrack with its realtime pitch shifting and time stretching. A powerful computer should be able to cope with it.

I would also like an overhaul of the quantize section as an addition to the 25 year old standard version. So you'd have "Classic" and "Enhanced" mode. Both modes would offer full realtime control or at least realtime audition (like the 4K), but Enhanced mode would go way deeper into randomisation and note generation territory. Essentially a superfly KARMA-esque arpeggio, mixed with a beat repeater and rounded off with the MPC's solid quantize. Yes please. :smoker:

These suggestions are things that would be expected in a modern software workstation. Adding this would be more like giving the Ren the status quo but not innovating.

Name the product that has those features mapped to a controller and I'll buy it. Specifically the detailed realtime control of groove parameters. I'm not interested in what comes close or workarounds to achieve the same thing either.

It would be an innovation for Akai.

Maybe I am not sure which offline processes you are referring to.

In this forum, simply adding functions that can be achieved in another product (software or hardware) will not necessarily quiet the skeptics.

As far as Roland, after dropping Fantom G support and discontinuing the MV live....I am reluctant to spend any additional money of their products.

Specifically quantize, but I'm mainly talking about a comprehensive groove restyler and generator. Something that would work really well with electronic genres.

For example, if you had some pre-sequenced material you could go into the restyler and add ghost notes with the turn of a knob, or ramp up the swing for a small portion of a bar. You select the pads you want to effect and you have full control in realtime. Before you've even recorded anything you could also bounce into the restyler and have multiple groove generating patterns at your fingertips...

I'm talking about a funky hi hat arpeggiator in its simplest terms, and a full on Aphex Twin mash up at the other end of the spectrum. That's the kind of control I would like, because at this point in time it's a nightmare to achieve anything like what I'm talking about.

JAH Im with you with that. Roland wouldnt get a dime from me ever again dont care how good their how good another product they release. Support for the G alone turned me again.Still cant believe i sent 2500 for that dammmmmmmmmm

Roland backed it MV users from 2004 until it was dropped. Constant updates and new features added on the regular. Anybody that backs a product line for 7 years is cool in my books. Hell they updated the 8000 2 years after it discontinued. All i know is that my MV is bug free and working great.

Where's that MPC5000 update at ?

....and wait . How long was the 2500 out before Numark put a fork in it? :smoker:

Tough one...
This is kinda like asking what kind of electric car the world needs when in truth, cars are the problem, not a solution to anything...
...were living at the end of a musical epoch, and whenever humankind lives through one, culture is changed radically beyond belief.
If I woulda told any of you 20 years ago that MAJOR music artists would be giving away their albums for FREE, you would have laughed in my face. If I woulda told you 16 year old kids would be making music on their phones and that almost 1 BILLION people would have access to eachother 24 hours a day for free, you woulda told me to pass the JOINT :smoker:

What AKAI needs is not more technology, but more Passion...

do me a favour will ya

the ren is NOT innovative

although going on numarks past record, releasing a bug free, non self destructive machine...would be innovative for them.

how about some more innovation, like caring about their existing customers.....and coming true on their PROMISES in these fourms...like a mpc5k os update lol

it cracks me up how people think that people hating on the ren just cos it aint standalone....no, the past bahaviour of numark reflects current attitutdes towards that company.

And rightly so.

ps JaYRoam doesnt even use his mpc5k cos the os sucks.....

viewtopic.php?f=36&t=156977&start=15

akai have failed miserably on their current flagship, yet JaYRoam is in these forums telling people to cop it, if they want to go the standalone....but he doesnt even use it himself

time to change that dyper Jay...

Well put. I believe the same thing. When you have passion for a product, you put your heart and soul into it.

I am very passionate about MPCs. I jump at any opportunity I get to help advance the MPC line..whether its beta testing or helping forum members get the most out of their MPCs.
