Do you mean control reason with the Ren? That's all you could do, Reason dosnt have VSTs and there's no MPC Ren RE. Also Reason dosnt have midi out. So you might be able to use the Ren as a glorified midi controller that's it. Don't know if you already knew all this stuff, just wanted to make sure.

Someone with the Ren can confirm if you can use it with reason as a generic midi device. I don't see why not.

Whoops, yeah duh "sync" lol. That method dosnt work? Interesting. I'm not a Ren owner so I cant speak to what the problem is. I just didn't know how much experience you had with reason. When I was on the props forum there were still daily posts from people asking "how do I load in my vsts" and "where's the midi out", sometimes the threads would litterally be on the same page.

I know transport is touch and go with reason, some devices work and some don't when synced properly.

What version of Reason are you using? Have you tried using the IAC port?

EDIT: Alright, I tried everything. IAC and cabling both won't work with the Ren as a master, while any sequencer I own starts Reason and most of them vice versa - while the MPC has trouble syncing with any software other than Cubase...

Weird?

Works seamlessly with any hardware, though...and I was sure I already tested the MPC with Reason and I remember it working...

I got it working thru Akai internal MIDI..It can be found in Akai MPC folder/support..
Now i can control my reason machines thru MPC software..I only use MIDI channels and it's working Great..Ill get to the upstairs to take some printscreens for you..

Further testing showed that the MPC seems to have problems sending MIDI Clock (MC) messages properly. When Logic 8 Express's slaved to the MPC via MC, it shows MIDI coming in, though invalid, no matter what the sample rate. Via MIDI Time Code (MTC) there don't appear to be any issues at all...

When slaving Cubase LE 6 via MTC it mostly works, although Cubase having trouble recognizing 25 fps, since it mostly detects 24 and 25 fps alternatingly. All other frame rates do work. Although, I have experienced major troubles slaving Cubase 7 to the MPC Ren where Cubase was installed on other computers. I can't remember exactly what these problems were, but I know it was much easier to load the MPC as a plug-in in Cubase LE 6 and sync it then - we didn't manage to sync properly with the MPC used in Logic, either, but that may be due to Logic's rather "foggy" menu handling. Although I can get Cubase LE 6 to be master with Logic 8 Express as a slave.

I tested the above with cales as well as with internal MIDI (IAC on a Mac).

Since Studio One 2 doesn't support to be slaved as neither does the MPC, no testing possible here.

I am just reporting it as a problem to Akai. Flip!
