Thoughts on SP1200 RING mode...

Personally, to me, it just sounds really muted and kind of bitcrushed. I'm a little disappointed.

i really like the way it sounds.. BUT, it would be much more useful if you could apply to specific tracks instead of EVERYTHING

I like the way it sounds on my kicks and snares, but when applied to the entire mix, it really swallows the whole mix.

One good thing:

You can now resample vintage mode without having to record from the stereo outs of the hardware. Just go to RESAMPLE in Sample Record mode.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I think I remember Dan saying that eventually they want to make the SP1200 effect a plugin with parameters. It was in one of the NAMM videos.

Well yeah, and imho, that's not suprising.
Think of applying bit crusher on everything you got: it would be too much.
It's best when resampled and when done in moderation.

Just use the TAL plugin, it sounds a hell of alot better, and you can apply it to whatever tracks you want.

Same reason I might want 3 kinds of weed in 3 different jars.

But bit crusher isn't quite like a reverb or other FX where you really need that many for variety/situational usage. So i feel you.

Not surprised to hear the Ring Mod applied globally is bit blah.

I guess ask yourself then why do you need a Vintage mode emulation. It's the same basic principal,only with the plugin you can apply it to certain tracks, or oneshots vs. applying it to the entire mix.

There again,if your that much against the plugin, then by all means carry on.

How would that work, exactly? Would it make an audio file of my midi notes with ring mode applied?
