drum layering

why cant i layer drums with drag and dropping to a pad? it just changes to a new a drum sound. do i need to change some type of setting?

Hold shift on your keyboard while dragging-n-dropping. It's in the manual.

LOL. Nobody reads manuals. That's why most companies don't even print them up anymore. They put a PDF on their website for the few that actually reads them.

It's a shame, really.

It's a shame, really.

Companies have stopped printing them because it cuts down on costs. If forum members don't take the time to read the manuals...then the forum turns into a huge QA session..which I guess isn't too bad considering there are threads which have no useful purpose....

OTOH, the MPC should be easy enough to understand that you don't have to read the manual unless you do more exotic stuff.
I can't blame the OP to ask a question on the forum. It's sometimes much quicker than to try to find it in a 200+ page document.
I remember when, back in the 90s, it was part of the fun to read a manual to really learn a product in detail. Nowadays, nobody has (or takes) time for that anymore, and the attention spam has decreased to 'it just has to work intuitively'.

Then again, try using Logic without a manual

I don't know. What takes more time. Doing a search for layering on a .pdf or typing out a post and awaiting a reply?

I was having this problem too, I thought it wasnt possible. Read the manual beginning to end a bunch of times yet I still miss a few of these things.

I love reading manuals. Its a hobby of mine. I read manuals for devices I don't even have. I've been doing that since I was 12. I'm currently reading the manual for _ _ _ _.

I borrowed the manual for Street Fighter 2 on Super Nintendo and memorized everything before I ever actually had or played the game on that console. Manuals are great lol.

I hate reading manuals, but I did read the Ren's manual multiple times and I still missed a lot of little things, thats why I hate manuals, theres too much filler with shit I l already know how to do, and all the cool advanced functions are hidden between all of that.

we're really going to start derailing here, but it is really interesting if you can read them like books. you really come to appreciate a good manual.

for example some of the worse ones are like template text with key words replaced for each function.

i picked up my mpc (xl) across the country and read the manual when i wasn't driving the whole way back. i enjoyed it and i really had a head start when i sat down with it finally.
