Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

Could someone explain why in the HELL Akai would take down versions of their software that work w. OS 10.6.8?

I can understand not wanting to support it anymore going forward, but what possible sense could it make to MANDATE to their users that they upgrade their OS's?

Why is Akai trying to get in the OSX upgrade business?

And not only that, it DOESN'T work with the latest version of OSX?

I mean, couldn't someone from Akai just step back from their desk, look out the window, and think about that for a second?

And, even more frustrating, I ordered 10.8 from the Apple Store over 24 hrs ago and I'm STILL waiting for my download link....

Come on Akai, I'm really trying to love this thing, but it if I can't get this infurating business sorted out this weekend, it's headed back and I will NEVER EVER EVER buy another new Akai product again.

Not sure what you mean, they still seem to be there to download.

What do you mean by won't open?

Are you able to extract the installation files from the downloaded zip files?

Does it extract OK, but not allow you to run the installation program from the extracted installation files?

What error message are you getting?

Did you try version 1.1?

Have you tried version 1.0 from the installation CD?

Not sure which versions work with 10.6.8, and which don't, which versions have you tried?

This is from J. Sandeen;

"Official OS X 10.6 support was actually dropped in MPC 1.5, but the installer did not have an "OS blocker" on it - like it does now."

Absolutely the biggest corporate "we got your money, now here's our middle finger" I've experienced in recent years.... An "OS Blocker?"

None of the versions will open on 10.6.8..... I installed 1.0 from the DVD but cannot upgrade without changing my OS....

Yes, I can extract the files but the installer won't run. Apparently, Akai went to the trouble of making sure that the advertising on the carton, which says, clearly, compatible w. OSX 10.6, was really false advertising.

Thanks for going the extra mile to piss me off, Akai...

So you can extract the installer from the zip file, and run the installation program?

What error message do you get from installers up to version 1.5?

I doubt that they would go back to older versions and prevent the installers from working in 10.6.8, if they originally did work in 10.6.8.

No, I can't run the installer at all.

It appears that is EXACTLY what they did.

I find it surprising, if they did.

Does it give you an error message, saying that it is incompatible with 10.6.8, or does it not run at all?

If it doesn't run at all, are you sure there isn't something else causing the problem?

OK, just updated my os to 10.8, and the installers work.

It appears they really did go out of their way to make the product obsolete on 10.6.8....

Which only makes sense if they made some type of deal with Apple...

Why go out of your way to tick ppl off? Something is off here...

You still have not said if there was an error message when you ran the installers on 10.6.8, what versions of the installers you tried, and what that error message was.

I still suspect something was up with your 10.6.8 machine, rather than Akai going back to old installers and making them incompatible.

I might have a 10.6.8 Mac somewhere, if I do, I will give it a try.

you can t blame akai for that ...it just an economical reasons because they don t have to spend resources for keeping it for old os alive...

apple is dropping standarts very fast they don t care and the people accept it.

it must be a nighmare for any developer having to mess every year with a new OS.

take a look @ the ipad connectors they nearly change on every ipad generation

You can. Other software developers will commonly have a different computer for each OS for testing, and the additional compatibility generates more sales. Everybody wins.

They ditched the 10 year old 30 pin connector a few years ago and switched to the Lightning connector. So it's changed once.

I can understand that they reach a certain point in development and drop support for an older computer OS version, possibly due to their development tools being upgraded and no longer supporting the older computer OS versions, or maybe it is just easier and cheaper to only support the most recent computer OS versions.

In this case, was it MPC Software 1.5 that still worked with Mac OS X 10.6.8, and 1.6 needed Mac OS X 10.7?

The OP is suggesting that Akai went back to the older MPC Software update installers that are available for download on their website, 1.1/1.2/1.3/1.4/1.5, for example, which used to work with Mac OS X 10.6.8, and changed their installers so that they would no longer work with Mac OS X 10.6.8.

I find that hard to believe.
