What features do you rely on in MPC Ren/Studio?

Just want to see what are some of the main features everyone uses in the MPC Software and Hardware. I know not everyone uses every single aspect of the product. Interested to see what functions people rely on for their projects.

Also, do you use any functions that you feel like no one else may really use that much?

My main one is import/export to and from MPC 1000, 2500, and impc.

Its pretty much the center of my production. Most of all for its sequencing and easy song play features. Im just an MPC dude. Oh and I use the sample editing a lot.

I want to do all my mixing in here as well and its not bad but I need that global.

I use patch phrase a lot. It works well and I don't think many people use it. One trick I use is to create a patch phrase and then assign it to a key group. Result is I can play the patch phrase in any pitch and it will still be in sync with my tempo. Nice.

I use PP too, for breaks to sync to the tempo of my beat, then resample and chop the tempo synced version.

That's dope.

I use a lot of:

Normalize
Patch phrase
Tap tempo
Time stretch
And the power button when I need to reset this mofo when it hangs up.

Layering Pads Creating original sounds.
Patch Phrase to Keygroup as well. (Create chord instruments from samples).
16 Tunings and Velocity
Re-Sample
Sample Chop / Gain and Normalize / Reverse ect..
Note repeat with quantize keys
Program Filters and chokes
Automated Tunings and Filtering
Song Mode
Sequence Edit/Song Mode (I don't use step edit much at all)
Ring Mode out to Resample in
Export Functions


Off the subject - Does anyone have a technique that allows patch phrasing short (less than a bar) sounds. It would be great to have a keygroup of the short sounds pitch shift and time stretched???

Haven't tried this but keep it at one bar and silence the part you don't want to hear.

Haven't got into patch phrasing just yet (only had it about 2 weeks)

The one thing that helps me immensely has been bulk loading of samples.
Folder full of drums to a program in seconds. BIG boost in workflow for me.

The sample edit I'm still getting used to chopping and without using CEP.

do you just pp drum breaks?

ive tried with other stuff but if you slow it down too much it sounds all choppy and shit.

ive just been using stretching to make it slower/faster which keeps it in the same key.

what are keygroups for? still have not used those.

I'm using the virtual outs into reaper... So more virtual outs will be a blessing...
I like using the filters to shape the sound instead of using eqs and plugins.. So more filters per pad or even per layer would be great... (like at least 2 per pad)
