TT_Lab: Finally figured out why 1.7.1 would not install on m

Testers and fellow users. I could not get 1.7.1 to install on my MBP and I kept getting error messages. Come to find out, you cannot download the House Expansion or 1.7.1 using Google Chrome browser. Once I switched to Safari to download from Akai...everything worked, no problem.

Bottom Line: Use Safari to download from Akai Website.

It's weird, I have heard a lot recently about problems using Chrome...

And it's even weirder you having problems with just a single app...

I use Firefox when downloading from any website.

Happy to hear that! I was thinking yesterday about asking you how was it going.
Anyway, I only use chrome and no problem here.
But if that worked for you...Great! And now you know another tool for repairing or changing the permissons of your apps, that sometimes is so important in mac os x.

BatCHmod is awesome...I had about about 1K protected songs on my DJ Hardrive (out of 8K) that I could not modify (key info, comments, BPM and etc...) 30 seconds and I was finally able to fix a 8 year issue.

That's all I use to use until I found out that Firefox is the most memory draining browser out of them all. My memory was spiking like crazy if I had firefox running in the background when running Serato, Ableton and/or MPC.

Yeah...I know, right? It was crazy, each time I downloaded the update when I unzipped it it would say 809 file and MPC 1.7.1 file was corrupt. All the bytes of data was correct so, I would try yo install and it would always stop at "Writing MPC...." during the install and then say Error (every time).

Seconded. Highly configurable and effective. +1 on the memory drain, but it's easy not to have it open as long as you need memory. Quitting it is easy.

Same with most open source software. Quit Openoffice/Libreoffice, Firefox, Thunderbird, GIMP and other stuff when working. And if you're on a Mac, a slight tip here:

Open terminal, enter "purge" and press enter. That'll purge your RAM as quickly as a snap, but tread carefully! If you had opened such software as Firefox before using other apps, try it. If you have data in your clipboard or unsaved projects of any kind, don't use that command line. But it might be *just the thing* to reset any errors your audio stuff might produce when using your computer for hours at a time.

He was saying that it downloaded fine, but the error was happening during the actual install process.

Errors

#1: Could not extract the file "The 809 v1.3 update.pkg" from the archive "Update-MPC-v1.7.1-Mac.zip": The archive file is corrupt

#2: Could not extract the file "Update-MPC-v1.7.1-Mac.app/Contents/Resources/InstallApp.Pkg" from the archive "Update-MPC-v1.7.1-Mac.zip": The archive file is corrupt

#3: "The Installation Failed" The installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for asststance.

Te same three errors happen with every instance of Update-MPC-v1.7.1-Mac.zip I downloaded using Chrome (about 15-20). The one time I used Safari I did not encounter any issues. After I got everything working; I went back to download it again from Chrome (to see if it would happen again) and the same first 2 errors popped up.
