automating midi channels with external synths..

anyone else having no ability to automate external synths on a midi track? im hopin im overlooking something.. love some heads up or update that can bring that function into it like my 1000..

also while we on external synths can we change the Midi track Prog CH to select (multi) style patches (performance style like my Virus TI) instead of just presets numerically? then let the 'Bank & LSB' features find specific sounds>?

Assign the MIDI Control Change messages to QLinks, use the QLinks to control the external synths?

Program Change sends MIDI Program Changes messages, Bank MSB and LSB send MIDI Bank Select messages.

They are standard MIDI messages.

They are used in combination, on most synths, to select a specific program from a number of programs, in a number of banks.

Not sure what you want changed with them, or how you expect them to be changed, when they are standard MIDI messages.

although it seems to be a short fall from the MPC midi intuition i guess thats the way ?
what i not keen to do is have to set it up like that for every track in every song tho.. gonna need the manual out to see what all the CC messages send for functions.. & with 6 external synths to work with this will probably do my head in daily..

maybe ill just slave my 1000 & record the midi into it instead..?

as for Prog Ch the 1000 set the multi patch in multi mode (Virus TI), allowing me to open a new song & all my gear switched to the correct song settings.. now the Prog Ch changes the single preset instead as does the LSB.
maybe ill need to use the Virus plug in instead...

you can save midi programs and bring them into other projects. Once you assign all the qlinks, name the program after the synth, and treat it as a template in other projects.

& another thing.. this app needs more midi filtering options ..
seems selecting a sound from the miniNova is now changing to that number track on the sequence.. do i really need to unplug the midi cables & just record this shit live or what... hmmmm Midi production Center or Messy production Center..?

Try changing the Program Change setting, in Preferences/Other, to Off...

ok i like the sound of this & have created a saved Midi Control file, how do i place it in the Midi tracks on a sequence?

Ok.. so with global midi automation selected its reading the external synths parameter tweaks, but i cant find where its being written? ( delete or adjust)

any ideas?

In the main software window, if the selected track is a MIDI track, it should show the CC parameters that have automation recorded for them in the Automation section below the main grid view.

Select the parameter you want to view/edit. Use the pencil tool to draw in changes, hold the Option/Alt key to change the pencil into an eraser to delete automation points. Use the selector tool to select one, or a number of, automation points, and drag to move them, or press the delete key to delete them.

nothin is recording in the Automation lane, not on a midi track anyway? neither set to Prog or Global>?
automation is recording in GLobal but wont show itself on the track or in the sequence window?
seems Midi tracks are the only tracks that dont have their own Automation button on the track mixer ? such a massive oversight i recon.. whats the point of havin midi outs ??

maybe someone who uses hardware can speak to the programmers & sort this out in a future update?

as for now if someone can tell me how to load up a midi mapping i made for some of the
external gear then maybe i can just fake it until then...it funny how the manual tells us how to save but nothing after that....

i load programs up by navigating to them in the file browser within mpc software and double clicking them/selecting them on the hardware. folder 1 defaults to where you save projects to, so just open up a project file and find the program you set up. you might want to create a new project, save it as 'midi hardware presets' or something similar and then set your programs up in there, naming them per synth. the midi programs show up as a *.xpm file, eg virus.xpm

Saving a MIdi controller assignemnt is a .mcn not xpm
qlinks dont even recognise it..
programs are only sample based , midi tracks are oposite,
even the manual wont say what to do with them when you make a controller map..

No, MIDI tracks use programs, they appear in the Programs list in the software, you can right click on them to save them as .xpm files, as fdodds says.

so whats the point of saving them as a mapping & not being able to load them??


so your saying to make the mapping work i need to save the program, not the mapping.. then load that up into a sequence template to load each time i start a new song?
