2 part question...

Hello everybody,

I have 2 questions I cant seem to find any answers for.

1.) I know this is probably a stupid question being as the MPC studio has no audio interface and all. I was just wondering if there was any way to sample live audio like we used to do on the old MPC's. Be it a turntable or sound thats coming out of my computer (youtube etc.) I would like to sample on the fly. If theres no way (which I figured) no biggie. But it would be nice. Suppose I should have sprung for the Renaissance instead.

2.) Is there any way currently to control or pick what colors the pads light up when hit?
or are we pretty much stuck with the red on full level pad hits etc. I know its velocity dependent and changes based on what force the pads are hit. I was just hoping I could change from red on the full level hits. if not, once again....no biggie. But figured it was worth a shot asking.

You can sample external sound sources through your computer's audio interface - there's no difference between the Studio and the Ren in this respect, except the Ren has the interface built in while with the studio you have to supply your own interface.

You can sample computer audio through a virtual audio device like Soundflower or similar PC application. Just select this virtual audio device as the MPC's incoming audio device.

You can change pad color on a pad-by-pad basis by using the PAD ASSIGN button, although the color won't be velocity sensitive, it will be this color over all velocities (for this particular program).

Wow, wasnt expecting that!
So technically I could be watching a movie on youtube or something and on the fly record it through the software (as long as I have it set up correctly to use my card) And can then edit and chop it up from the unit itself. very dope.

To sample a film you are watching, I believe you'll have to initially set Soundflower as your current audio output device either in your media player or for your entire computer. For example in VLC player, you can choose Soundflower as the audio output device - this way your usual system audio is unaffected.

In the MPC Software preferences, set Soundflower as the incoming audio device with your normal audio interface as the outgoing device, go to RECORD and set MONITOR: ON.

There's probably plenty of ways you can configure this, I might add a tutorial for this to the next edition of my book.

Soundflower seems to be a mac only application.
One can only assume there is a windows equivalent out there, I'll go ahead and try to find that.
Also, I will have to grab that book of yours come pay day, sounds like a lot of stuff I could use reading up on.

Other then these couple of things I'm pretty happy with the workflow on this unit.
probably the closest they have come to emulating a true MPC experience.
Now if if I could just rename a sequence I'd be happy. haha

You could also have a soundcard or audio interface with loopback built it. One of the saffire pro has that option still. With loopback you just sample what you hear no extra cables or software.

I have an old creative platinum audigy from 2002 that I still use because of of option. Creative probably wont make windows 10 drivers for it so I will keep this machine maxed at 7

There's a couple PC equivalents of SoundFlower, I can't remember them off the top of my head but I used to use it quite often years ago, maybe someone else can chime in the give the exact name of it.

Am I completely tripping or is there no way to export the entire songs stems?
I saw a video where they did it on the renaissance but it isnt working for the studio as far as I can tell.

File > Export > As Audio Mixdown > Explode Tracks
