Say you lay a pattern that you like. Later, you over dub a few more notes on that track, but after it loops, you realize you don't like those extra notes. The undo button let's you quickly remove them without redoing the whole pattern or removing the notes in step edit.

SHIFT - SONG is free. we can silk screen PAD COPY in orange.

its a single hand press, and we can light it amber when it's pressed.

im thinking press it - it pops lights, and screen pops up "Copy pad___"

hit a pad, button blinks

screen changes to COPY PAD A01 to PAD ___

strike a pad.

done.

I also like it becasue we can light it a different color, and its a one hand button press. you dont have to use two hands, so its faster.

This sounds great. To clarify this potential feature:
1. Does "Copy Pad" copy all program parameters for that pad?

2. Can we Copy Pad A01 and quickly copy it to Pads A02 to H16, without having to exit and re-enter "Copy Pad" menu?

3. Does it create an actual duplicate of the sample..so "Drum Loop.wav" becomes "Drum Loop2.wav", "Drum Loop3.wav", etc)?

id rather be able to do it from the main page. saves a step. Also, side note, we'll have multiple levels of UNDO, and SHIFT-UNDO will redo...

1. thats the plan, yes.
2. maybe shift could copy multiple pads? not sure how it would work otherwise.
3. yes, that way you can chop each one differently

#2 is good to clarify.
Because what Blue Haze describes (as in Maschine):
1. Hold down duplicate button
2. First pad pressed is the Copy source
3. Subsequently press one or more additional pads copies the source pad to these new destinations

versus

1. Pressing Shift + Song
2. Window [Copy Pad ___]; press pad to Copy
3. Window [Copy Pad to ___]; press pad to Copy to
4. Repeat steps #1-3; this is not as fluid as the method above

To improve this method, [Copy Pad to] should allow you to choose multiple pads. So pressing mulitple pads would look like this: [Copy Pad to A02, A03, A04, A05.......].

Thanks for the implementation of the copy to pad function i didnt answer earlier because I had to get some sleep. But like the others said by holding down a duplicate button to copy like maschine and MV8000 is greatly welcome for sample editing.

Looking at the hardware, I can't see where a duplicate button can be added.

1. Shift + Song is a good option for duplicating/copying a pad. You can do it with one hand. The slight down side is you will be adding an edit function to a button that is in an area reserved for Modes. So it looks like adding the button is an after thought (which it is.. :D ).

2. Shift + Pad Assign could be an option. You can add Pad Copy silk screened in red under Pad Assign button. You will need two hands to access this function. But grouping Pad Assign and Pad Copy seems more logical.

3. Shift + Copy could be an option. You can add Pad Copy silk screened in red under Copy button. You will need two hands to access this function. Grouping Copy and Pad Copy seems almost as logical as grouping Pad Assign and Pad Copy.

I think #2 and #3 are good if you don't have to hold them down while duplicating/copying pads. If you have to hold buttons down in order to dupliate/copy, the one handed Shift + Song would be better if no individual button for duplicating is available.

That is my 2 1/2 cents.....

Actually I was agreeing with you on the number two option Jah using the Pad Button. I just called it duplicate. Anyways I`m happy that it was added.

Lampdog wrote:"Dimple" that's a good one. I think the 2kxl data wheel has the best mix of clackity clack and tactile feel, it's excellent. But 2k owners will of course fight to the death for their 2 layer wheel.

i liked the 2xl, but i actually got use to the 4k, wasn't too bad. I hope the studio's has a strong feel..............

If you have the front face of the mpc ren like the 4k with a pad assign button maybe that can be set up for duplicate or copy. Or shift use to change it to copy mode with a light to change to red or something like that which the user then press and hold while duplicating or copying the samples to different pads for manual chopping aka truncating.

The workflow wanted to this video.

we do have a pad assign button. that's a good idea using it as a double function for copying.

checking out the vid now.

yeah, im thinking like this:
1.hold down button (or shift + button)
2.hit pad you want to copy (turns a color, orange maybe)
3.hit 1 to many pads that you want to have the copy of pad in step #2 (pads turn color showing they have been copied to)
4.let go of buttons - the last copied pad is the one selected

thinking about it, depending on how you implement the pad assign button, maybe you don't need shift....maybe 1 press and release brings up pad assign window, and holding it down while pressing pads does the copy stuff.

the way duplicate pad works in maschine is:
1.hold down duplicate button
2.press pad you want to be copied - it gets highlighted bright orange
3.press pad(s) you want to recieve the copy
4.all parameters, vsts, and sample start/end points are dupicated

note: drumloop.wav does not turn into drumloop_001.wav, when you duplicate a pad it retains the same sample....however, this is okay because you edit the samples non destructively, so say i copy a pad wtih drumloop.wav so now 2 pads have the same sample, each pad can have its own start and end points on the sample..........this saves memory and makes it easier to manage your project because instead of having duplicate .wav's you work on the same sample....of course you have the option to duplicate drumloop.wav to drumloop_001.wav if you want using good old windows copy and paste!

i think this is how the mpc ren should work. you dont actually duplicate the wav, you just duplicate the pad settings with another instance of the wav, where that instance can have its ownn parameters/settings (start and end points, tuning, etc.)

if for example, you perform a sample edit that is destructive, it will apply to all instances of that sample........you would then need some kind of dialog confirmation warning user this would happen and either letting them create a new sample, or overwrite the existing one.

this is what users that have jjos mean when they talk about jjos NDC - on 1 given sample you have mulitple start and end points (called chops) assigned to differant pads, each pad with its own "chop".

I hope this clarifies some things.

Nice I agree. But this could be a big change to the code of MPCs. As start/end points are tied to the actual sample and not the pad. If start/end points were tied to each pad, there wouldn't need to be a duplicate or copy function as the MPC 5000 and Ren have multi pad edit. With a simple selection/turn of a dial, the same sample can be assigned to 1 or up to 128 pads.
