about mpc rennaisance looks.

well, I like the side plates (they have a sort of 60mk1 look to them, but a bit more modern) .. I like that.

the arm rest... I like that too.

the transport keys, I thing those are great... better than the post 3000 ones IMO..


the jog wheel, not a fan at all... it looks like an mpc60 jog wheel that has been chewed on the end...

the 16 knobs looks cluttered to me, plus just north of those knobs are buttons.. that might be a bit of an (nit picking) issue if you are leaned back in your arm chair as the arm rest suggests you should be... I am talking about the angle.. the buttons would be hidden by the knobs.

the pads, well akai claims they are genuine mpc pads... hopefully they kept the same rubber mold so mpc stuff pads could go on the machine... that also hides the light show under the pads.

overall, I like the way it looks... I am not huge on the paint job... I dont really care too much though... none the less we got krylon or forat to cover that issue.


okay, the software screen shot... it looks pretty standard.... the colour scheme is easy to look at....


for the people who invest in this expensive MPD, if the software is complete rubbish as many people are expecting it to be... lets hope someone like imageline integrates it into FL or something just like they have with the APC40 and launch pad...

Looking at the top of the unit carefully, it looks like 13 screws you can remove to open up the top of the unit. This would be great to have easy acces to swapping out pads or buttons. I am looking at the side cheeks tryimg to determine if they are easily removable. I will certainly be sending my MPC Ren to Forat for a make over.

Vintage Mode sounds very corny but I like it.
I have that on my Maschine and I use it a lot on my drums if they are not directly sampled from vinyl.

So yea its damn corny but Im glad Akai put that on there.

I also want to see the price point.

I was sceptical about the vintage modes on maschine when they came out and in use they don't really quite live up to their emulations namesakes. But, over time, I have found them to be useful tools in my arsenal...

For instance, the MPC60 mode basically reduces bit-rate, narrows the stereo field, adds some tasteful compression, adds a little bit of drive and brightens or excites the top end a bit, which obviously works quite nicely on an old vinyl drum break. Pitching down the samples exaggerates these attributes.

Don't get too caught up in the names/hardware replication, it's useful to have three different "flavours" of sound to quickly flick through and see what sounds best with your sample.

It's something I never imagined I would ever want, but so far it"s been really useful.

As for the missing "sound like Skrillex" button...

Don't worry about it - it's in there in the "American Pop Dubstep" section in the "Oxymoron" sub-folder near the "White Supremacist Rap" section, the "Christian Death Metal" section and the "People who think the greatest reggae song ever is 'that one about the cricket'" section.

yeah, thats how i look at it and fugg with it. Its a good tool to add to your toolbox to scuplt your sounds.

would be cool if the "other" on the mpc-ren could be a user defined option. maybe a vst, or user settings on some bit reduce/compression/filter/eq thing. dial in your favorite settings, save them, then just hit the button and BAM!

^ or maybe it will be an "all of the above" option for all the various vintage sound presets they include...

They already did. The MPC2000 (16bit) and every MPC that came after it. In the end, "better" is an individual opinion.
I don't understand why the option is such a bad thing. When Maschine emulated the older samplers, it was the most talked about update, but Akai does it and it's wack before the device is produced. ..I don't get it.

Not really Tap! It actually sounds dope IMO, well, the SP1200 mode anyway. I use that shit on damn near all my drums and some samples. I don't really care for the MPC60 mode though! Sounds too bright on most shit, but works well on a few things!

lot of u take urselves to seriously, whats wrong with having a mode switch

they know peeps hold the sound of those units in high regard and they wanted to take the mpc line back to the roger lin roots we should commend them for this as that was the era that sparked the mpc legend and they giving a nod to the history while taking it to the future with computer integration.

I think the overall design is good, but the colour scheme is hideous. If they make a black LE version of it someday, it might look decent.

Gotta agree with explicit, the lights are horrible!
