Honestly, the only reason I'd update the Mac is because it's only $30, and that would be only if all my stuff was still compatible! With Windows being $200-300 per upgrade, I only update if I have to. Up until last year, I was using XP since 2001 (10 years)! I had only just updated to Windows 7 last January!

thats cool about the windows .. i dont and will never used a pc again , but as far as a mac .. the ni maschine i had to up grade my os in order to get the new up date to work .. and like i said b4 . i had a tb hard drive of samples and sounds .. put in folders .. it took me more than 6 months 2 do that .. i had it hooked up .. like the duet .. i had the 5-8 os on my mac .. i could not use it intill i upgraded .. i was forced 2 upgrade .. .. so i was stuck .. my choice was this not up grade and use 6.9 on my ni machine .. and sell my duet cuzz i didnt upgrade and keep using my mbox ?? u didnt have 2 go threw this cuzz u just got ya mac ... let me ask you this .. is the mpc ren compatible with windows o7 ?? and mac 5.0 os on a mac ??? ...

well I think the point is, buy products that are compatible with your computer and OS.. dont install hardware or software that is not... (dont try and install doom for windows 95 on your windows 7 machine unless you have some sort of win95 emulator or other work around to get it to run) ... then, keep that setup as is... in 5 years you are buying a new computer anyways... so you still got the current one to function with the gear of that era.

nobody is complaining that you cant install the latest JJOS on their mpc 60. Same deal with this...

when pro tools 18 comes out, nobody will be wondering why it doesn't work on windows 7, and nobody is trying to get pro tools 2 to work on windows 7 either.

so your telling me in 18 years akai will update thier software for the mpc ren ?? or would you rather have a stand alone mpc .. that will last all most 20 years from now like the mpc 3000 http://www.ebay.com/itm/AKAI-MPC-3000-L ... 231bf8f402 and is worth more than double the price .. i would get get the mpc ren for the fact .. that i can do alot of things with it .. and i can make differnt styles of music with it like dubstep glitch hop like i can bust a lot of styles with it .. but only time will tell .. if will be able 2 make that grimey hiphop .. but back to my point .. tr 808 http://www.ebay.com/itm/RARE-ROLAND-TR- ... 43aebccc5a stand alone plan and simple .. its the ish ..

The MPC 3000LE cost $3000 when it was new. It should cost more then the MPC Ren. If you don't like the Ren then go buy a hardware MPC. No one is forcing you or trying to convince you to go either way.

Akai has been making MPCs for 25 years. I see them around for another 25 years.

first of all .. you tell grown men 2 ignore me and i will go away .. then u take one small thing i said .. 2 try and make me look bad .. but dont respond 2 any of my valid ponts .. because . some of them are not in akai favor .. second of all why do u post ignore him .. then u turn around and post somthing to me ?? .. thiers two sides of the coin .. you just want people 2 see one .. i didnt make this post ..im just simply trying 2 anser the man question .. i make 1-5 beats a day ..all dope beats so lets do the math thats around 125 - 150 . so thats around 4000 less or more beats a year .. now what happens if one day my comp crashes ?? so that means i have 2 save every beat i make in protools to back it up ?? and your anser to every thing is if u dont like it just dont buy it ..smh .. and btw who the hell are you anyways .. to tell me if i dont like somthing dont buy it .and tell people 2 just ignore me .. im a grown azz man .. FOH .. also like i said b 4 i dont hate the ren and never said i was not gona buy it .. im just simply givin my thoughts on why i like standalone .. so who are u to try and tell some one thier wrong for stating why they like somthing !!!!!!!!!!!

Personally for me the computer connection contradicts the reason I love my MPC. People who complain about storage mediums either haven't researched the many solutions we're blessed with these days (even for older models), or they're being vaginas who should learn how to track things out efficiently for extra back up.

However, logically OS updates will surely be easier on the computer, when compared with older pieces of hardware as long as Akai continue to write them.

@ Monsta, don't get wound up dude you make valid points.

SEE I CAN DEAL WITH A COMMENT LIKE YOURS .. AND I DONT MIND BEANING WRONG .. IM NOT SAYIN THAT I AM LOL .. ITS JUST . U GET PEOPLE LIKE JAH .. WHO WANA CALL U A HATTER .. AND TELL GROWN AZZ MEN WHAT 2 DO ... ill make a deal with jah .. ill battle him one on one .. and if he beats me i wont coment for 1 month and the loser has 2 say im sorry you are the best 8) .. . . ii know how 2 track fast in prootls .. all u have 2 do is track the first 4 - 16 bars and thats it not the whole 3-4 min beat ... and another reason why i i like stand alone is the sound not the work flow its the sound .. my point was not the price look @ the tr 808 its 3000 still becuzz of what the sound ... sp 1200 is 2500 still why .. the sound .. no one cares about a jjos on a mpc becuzz of what .. the sound ... the NEUMANN U47 http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEUMANN-U47-EF1 ... 45fe96c8e3 why is it so good ?? is it the work flow .. maybe it needs a thunderbolt hook up 2 it .. or maybe add a chip 2 it 2 make it wireless .. lol its the sound man the sound ... ps just becuzz i like standalone does not mean i dont like the ren .. and it goes both ways if i dont like it dont buy it .. and if akai dont like advice / listen 2 what people want dont make it .. but i tell u this .. thiers a smart person in this forum i bet .. who will take every thing we want and all the ideas we have .. and make .. the new greatest drum machine ever .. mark my words !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, all I am saying is, dont worry about the ren not working on computers that will be released 10 years from now.. cause you could always keep a machine dedicated to the ren that will still be compatible. I have an old NEC versa pentium 1 laptop with 32 megs of ram running windows 95 so I can still play my old windows 95 and dos games.. as well as for fun I have fruity loops 1 and fruity tracks. It costed me 20 bucks and it is brand new in mint condition (the track pad has no wear on it at all)

Yeah people still use the 3000 years later because it still works.. I use a 60 all the time.. I could load up my songs in the 2000 or what ever... but I dont. I made stuff on the 60 and I want to load it on the 60 next time too.

yes i do se what your saying .. it all depends on what u like .. and believe god 4 bid i could die 2 maro .. so im not some dude that wants 2 have a machine that . hold its value in money , its nice but not my point .. all im sayin is it would be to have a machine that can do every thing the mpc ren can do but does not need a comp in order for it to work .. and it can be done .. the iphone is more powerful than any comp made in the 90s if open labs can colab with pc why cant akai colab with apple that would be dope .. make a new mpc that can do all of this ?? i dont know any one who ever said .. they lost all thier beats from the mpc 3000 crashing ... i dont know and one who ever said they lost and beats becuzzz thier sp 12000 crashed on them .. but i have a lots of story's of me losing 100s of beats from a bad hard drive .. or a virus .. ect .. all im sayin thiers just somthing about .. plugin up a standalone device .. its a since of freedom lol .. i mean all u have 2 do is in a mpc 3000 and sp 1200 is plug in ya head phones and walla .. thats why the Electronic Drums http://www.musiciansfriend.com/electron ... hwodJjZ2Wg will never replace any real drums .. thats why the guitar will never be replaced and it was made 1000s of years ago .. what about the piano lets make that in 2 a vst lol .. so maybe akai is planing to come out with a new mpc 6000 ???? if so than then the mpc ren is killing the comp right now .. but if thats it for the standalone MPCs then .. wow its a said day ..

I'm literally only playing devil's advocate here Monsta, but ask the "how many beats have you lost?" question to anyone with a JAZ drive.

I'm with you though, I believe there's a place for standalone units forever. As you say, VSTs are incredibly convenient there's no denying it, but there's downsides to that convenience.

I wonder how Akai will respond if and when their software is torrented, and cracked for use with another controller? Or for use on it's own.

well open labs took a PC set of parts and components... an audio interface.. and some other bells and whistles and removed the cases... then they mounted all that stuff inside a USB midi controller case... then they stripped down windows XP (which is easy to do) (they apparently used windows 7 in later revisions)

you know what though? you could technically do that with the ren some time down the line... now that would be neat. Take some micro ATX main board, create an extension to the ren's casing ... and build a computer in it.. mount a small LCD display as small and compact as 7" and mount it somewhere on the ren body you added to..

boom, standalone ren. Hell, if you are afraid of viruses... put gum in the ethernet port.

MAN I LOST ABOUT 500 BEATS , I WENT TO THE STUDIO WITH MY BOY BACK IN THE DAY .. IT WAS 2 BAGS ONE BAG HAD MY MPC ANT THE OTHER BAG HAD MY FLOPPY DISK .. GUESS WHO I ASED 2 HOLD MY BEATS HE WAS 2 HIGH AND LEFT THE BAG BY THE CURVE OF THE CAR . OR MAYBE HE WAS JUST A HATER LOL .. THEN THIER S THE TIMES WERE I LOST 100S OF BEATS ON MY PC BECUZZ OF A VIRUS .. BACK THEN I CULD NOT AFFORD TWO COMPS SO YES I DID GO ON THE INTERNET WITH THE SAME COMP I MADE BEATS WITH SMH .. and isee ya point .. u can still lose beats on a stand alone machine your right .. i have lost many of beats on a floppy usin an asr 10 .. but its NOT THE SAME .. I WILL RATHER LOSE 3 BEATS ON A FLOPPY OR ZIP THAN LOSE 100S OF BEATS ON A HARD .. DRIVE !! AND I KNOW SOME ONES GONA SAY U CAN BACK IT UP .. BUT I KNOW KNOW REAL BEAT MAKERS IM ONE .. AND WE MAKE 1- 5 BEATS A DAY WHEN WERE INSPIRED .. SO NOW ONE HAS TIME TO RUN IT THREW PROTOOLS AND SAVE IT TO CD .. MY POINT I HAVE BEATS THAT ARE OVER 15 YEARS OLD .. AND PEOPLE THINK I MADE THEM YESTERDAY .. I CAN KEEP THE THE CF CARD ZIP DISK ECT FOR LIFE .. LIKE SAY IF MY MPC BEAKS DOWN OR ASR 10 DOES .. I CAN JUST GO ON EBAY AND BUY A NEW ONE .. NOW SAY IF I BACK EVEY THING UP FROM MAKING A BEAT IN MPC REN .. 2 YEARS FROM NOW THE BEAT WONT EVEN SOUND THE SAME .. CUZZ I WILL HAVE A DIFFERNT DRIVER DIFFERNT COMP DIFFERNT AUDIO INTERFACE .. AND DIFFERENT FRAME OF MIND .. SO THATS WHY I LIKE STAND ALONE .. TO MAKE IT SIMPLE ITS SIMPLE .. PS this is not a bash mpc ren post . this is a why i like stand alone post .. and as far as torrented, and cracked software .. idk .. all i know is i never seen a cracked mpc 3000 but i seen a cracked sp 12 lol Image Image LOL
