Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

Let us know Aiden if you get it together with a slick Template. I will give it a try if I have any spare time.

And already ordered the push just waiting for it.

This is completely different than saying 'I would like Akai or a 3rd party to develop a template so I can use the Ren as a generic controller.'

why would akai have it so it lacks anything basic like this that say maschine or spark does which is be able to assign your midi to the host daw track instead of internally in the software gui and use your knobs to control other things

the applied limitations on the ren is kind of overkill when it has the potential to be the baddest on the scene things like this set it back big time man trying to work this way is mad fractured

lift the roof off this thing akai please

why cage up your own beast?

The template thing is impossible the ren software does not send out cc or midi note once software is loaded up you can verify this with bome midi translator so we would need a feature adding that allows us to do this

and this feature would allow them some time to work on and perfect the standalone automation and daw aspects of it as all automation and things of that nature could be done in the daw with the plugin

its hard to believe it cant do things the mpd can...when there is no reason it cant and shouldn't be able to

This isn't accurate. The Ren software does send MIDI CC and MIDI notes once the software is loaded. You can verify this using a MIDI Monitor application.

I use MIDI Monitor by http://www.snoize.com/MIDIMonitor/

1. Open up MIDI Monitor application

2. Open up the Ren software with the hardware attached

3. Create a MIDI instrument Track

4. Strike the Ren's Pad A01 several times; MIDI Monitor app shows that C-2 note is being transmitted.

5. Assign the Ren's Q1 to MIDI CC#1 and turn the knob; MIDI Monitor app shows Modulation Wheel data is being transmitted

In addition to this, if you are on a Mac, there is an IAC Driver built in. When set-up properly...you can use the IAC driver as the Ren's Input and Output port. Then you can use the Ren in standalone mode and send/receive MIDI data to any software app running on your Mac (to include Live). *There should be PC apps that do the same thing.

When you load the Plugin of the mpc once loaded up midi stops being sent from the pads and q links this is completely accurate load up the PLUGIN and try again

im not wanting to route stand alone app that would be just like using external hardware the the point of using it as a plugin are all the things that you expect from a plugin one being able to record its midi inside your daw track and using the hardware to record those notes

its silly that it would record a keyboard playing the same pgm file going thru the ren but then wont record its own pads

that is limitation over kill seriously

Just so you can fully understand what im trying to do

load up plugin load up pgm in ren or say bettery from inside the ren and then seq that into ableton's track jamming it out from the pads and if it sent full midi note & cc to ableton then we can automate and control in ableton and have a perfect marriage when using the plugin mode

with standalone being good but not close to a full daw in terms of automation and other things it would seem to make sense no?

Once the 'plugin of the MPC' is loaded into your DAW, its MIDI routing is handled by the DAW. If you look in the MPC plugins preferences, you will find the Port 1-4 are mapped to 'DAW'.

Within your DAW, you select 'MPC' as the MIDI Input Device on an Instrument or MIDI Track. Depending on your DAW, you can quickly set the DAW's Instrument or MIDI track MIDI Output to another plugin or an external MIDI module. The Ren's Pads and Qlinks will the transmit MIDI as long as you have it set to MIDI Track. I posted videos in multiple threads on how to set it up. I even have it on You Tube.

Note - If your DAW's Instrument or MIDI Track is routed to a plugin, you will most likely not see MIDI data being transmitted in the MIDI Monitor app you are using. But as soon as you set your DAWs Tracks to one of the Ren's MIDI Ports, striking a Pad will display the MIDI events in the MIDI Monitor app.

I am sitting in front of my Ren doing this as I type this post.

Im sitting in front of my ren doing the same and getting exactly what Ive said

In ableton you dont need to select but you can its on all inputs by default meaning it will detect any midi signal from all your connect devises and play them and at the top right you see a midi activity light that flash when pressing pad or twisting q links when Not loaded up but the minute its loaded up no activity

so would you please post your video of this in action with ableton would be nice the trial will let you perform this action

Im aware and know how to control another plugin using the pads from mpc but thats not what im trying to do

Im trying to seq my pgm in ableton track rather than the ren using my pads to do so if you have been able to do this I would love to see

At least on Pro Tools, selecting 'ALL Inputs' does not enable the Ren to send MIDI. You must select the 'MPC' device in the MIDI input field. Do you have 'MPC' selected in the MIDI Input field?

You have me confused its a pgm im trying to seq not a plugin in ableton using the ren

load up your ren in daw pref ableton load up pgm attempt to seq that in ableton track using your pads and let me know how you get on

Go to You Tube and search for "sirjahrome." There are a few videos I posted. If you need help with a specific function, I can record a video and post it.

So I figured out how to record MIDI data into Live using the Ren's pads. But it seems this is not what you want?

You want to use the Ren as a sound module, it's pads as a controller, and Live as the sequencer?
By Jnmmorgan79 Mon Apr 22, 2013 12:18 pm
Ok so I am running the Ren as a plugin. And sequencing in the Ren for stuff I want to do in the Ren. That works great, how do I creat different clips in Abelton. That would control different sequences in the Ren?

I tried doing standalone mode. And it was kicking my ass. I could't figure it out. That is one, also when u open Ren as a plugin. Then u open a plugin inside of the Ren. It puts the plugin behind the Ren. And you have to move the Ren down to get to let's say massive. That kinda sux....

hopefully Jah will help us get better implementation of the midi and controller side of the mpc ren by championing what we are asking for which to me sounds like what your asking a controller mode would deal with and make it a good option for live performances too
