for example some of the worse ones are like template text with key words replaced for each function.

i picked up my mpc (xl) across the country and read the manual when i wasn't driving the whole way back. i enjoyed it and i really had a head start when i sat down with it finally.

derailing further, the other day i passed by a free pile and picked up a book that is just the code for a chess game written in assembly language
its about a hundred or more pages of memory addressing type stuff. i'm not so into this one but it is a cool relic nonetheless.

lol, it's a crime to write a chess game in assembly in the first place

I believe this particular feature is demonstrated in the MPC University videos. These videos are highly recommended if you don't like to read.

First. Concerning manuals:

Ableton Live 8 only needs 553 pages.

Cubase 4 (!) operation manual has 649 pages.

Reason 6.5 manuals consist of 1,081 pages.

Pro Tools Reference Guide has 1,288 pages.

Logic Express 8 documents even total to 1,865 pages.

FL Stud10 manual (among many, MANY others) only available online because they're - simply said - huge.

My question:
Why can't people just read a teensy weensy manual having a mere 136 pages?

And yes, I "just" downloaded these manuals to my mobile to prove a point. And yes, THAT'S the reason why I started this very post with "First".

Honestly: I really was excited when I saw the manual. Finally one man can afford to print himself. Oh, and I remember a Mackie 1604 VLZ manual saying something like to leave the LOW CUT button be when recording earthquakes and such...

i believe mackie always has subtle jokes in their manuals

I want to see shift sample file by (1) sample increment implemented unto the drum program menu. This is an essential feature when Drum layering.
