Im using it standalone mode, synced to ableton via IAC bus (mac). This way Ableton is slaved to the ren and i can sequence midi from my Max 49 into the ren-Ableton or from ren into ableton.
I play midi from the ren to a integra 7 through ableton. I can do easily everything you described here. Just run the ren as standalone synced to live. I stop using protools because for me the ren works best with Live.

Still can't get the Ren (stand Alone) to slave to ableton. Posted screenshots so that some one can point me in the right direction on how to set this up.

Thank you in advance!!!

2- double click on the IAC driver icon (red one)

3- thick device is online and the plus button, rename it Virtual MIDI Port

4- go to Live Midi Preferences and set iac virtual midi port to track on and sync

5- open the mpc software, preferences, midi tab, under midi mapping set iac driver virtual midi port for the desired midi out port.

6- Under the sync tab (mpc preferences) set send> midi clock and to>iac driver virual midi port.

Thats it, go back to live click the external button and press the play button of your

mpc.
Now the 2 app are synced.

If you want play virtual instruments within your mpc pads just select a midi track, the corresponding midi port and arm your midi track in Ableton Live.

fantastic tutorial. i have two midi interfaces and a heap of virtual ports. think it is all set up correctly, now and again ableton and the Ren sync but on the whole the software crashes on the ten. Anyone had this problem with crashing with ableton and the ten?

Nope, just have ableton slaved to the Ren and after a while both pieces if software crash. I found that I have I click EXT and unsync the two if I want to record into ableton. It's a workaround for sure but annoying as hell

Ableton uses a huge load of RAM. If you use it in conjunction with the MPC via IAC make aure you have 8GB of RAM at least, I'd rather suggest 16. Even with less demanding DAWs internal syncing is relatively intense in memory usage.

Thanks man, might spur me on to get more ram in my iMac! Will get on it, would be a massive help period, regardless of the sync issue

Following the steps as outlined and STILL no joy syncing the two! Bloody plug in. My Ren will sync with everything else I own just not ableton. Followed the steps EXACTLY as outlined? Anyone having same issue?
