Mpc Software stuck at preparing installation

If it was PC software I'd "Run as Administrator" and turn off my antivirus software (which often attempts to scan every new file being written to disk as it is uncompressed by the installer - making it seem as if it has hung).

However, I'll ask the Mac developers here at my work if they know of any tips.

Try installing it in safe mode

Here's how to do it...


Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).


To leave Safe Mode, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

Sounds like something is wrong with the files you are trying to install...possibly corrupted. You shouldn't have to go through all these changes to install this software. You should be able to install from the disk (perhaps get a portable drive) or from a disk image.

If its getting stuck at preparing installation some kind of user setting is preventing the installation. Safe mode will disable any kind of security setting or 3rd party software that's preventing the installation.

It doesn't sound like a data integrity issue with the files. Not if it freezes at preparing installation..... But I could be wrong.

Cool! I'm glad you got it working. I wouldn't worry about it unless you're not able to install any programs at all. Safe mode probably performed the basic maintenance for the installer to work properly going forward. If it happens again any service based or service-related app can interfere with the funtionality of the installer/updater.
