The Qlinks are implemented in an ever so slightly different way on the Ren as opposed to the MPC 5000. There are certain params where the Q-links are a godsend, like editing plugin instruments and effects. It is a lot easier to edit on the Ren than Studio IMO. Then there is the data dial.....my favorite MPC data input device (still not as functional as I would like). It is much more 'fun' to use that the one found on the Studio. In fact, it craps over the data dial found on most MPCs.

Although i prefer chopping on the lcd screen and aviod the laptop(as i look at it when recrding voks mixing and tracking mastering, of which is time consuming and laborious) My fav chop method is jjos but

I think if you like chopping on the comp screen The ren will be a good one for you...
If you can couple it with a newmacbook pro for portability or pc equivilent specs .. . It will perform pretty close if not the same like a hardware mpc in terms of latency.. ( A new macbook pro 13 can quite comfortably get down to 128 buffer size... This is pretty good in terms of live pad hitting) But it all depends on how much load you start adding to it... (vst plugs would be the taxer i think)
The qlinks and data wheel are the best feeling i think too..
Load times are blazing fast too... Something most people haven't really chimed in on or noticed.. Its fukn amazing!!!! Kinda of expected but not appreiated...

I posted up one of my Rolands on Ebay last night (Fantom X6). It already has bidders and watchers so when the auction closes I will then be 1 step closer to the Ren. Not sure I will keep the 5k. Might sell that also, or even sell that then I will be forced to upgrade to Ren and maybe spec out a blazing new laptop.

Yeah, If your chopping on pc already i'd prob get rid of the 5k.. As pretty much all features except hd rec and synth are the same, if not better...(especially the chopping)

I used to use chopshop in 5k heavy, til I started doing it in sound forge and audacity... I never used the HD record since I dumped that sold 2k and 1k and went to the 5k... I use pc for audio tracks. Aways have since my oorginal cakewalk days

By the way....a lot of producers didn't respect the MPC 4000. In fact, a lot of people hated it. It only received a cult following in this forum 'after' it was discontinued and sold for cheap.
