He probably hasn't been paid by Akai anyway.

A lot of these type of people do the rounds of gear demonstrating. That dude Jordan Rudess is on every new synth that ever drops... EVER. :Sigh:

Speaking of famous producers repping the product....they should do videos with Premier and Pete Rock now that they've probably used it for a while.
E.g., Pete Rock recently had an interview on the net where he was posing with the Ren.
I sent Akai a message on FB about it and they posted it right away.

unlike some of the other star producers that appeared in ren promos... Young Guru did that whole MPC Univeristy thing.. he was more like a spokesperson... definitely on nukai's payroll.. I'm pretty damn sure his appearance at this maschine 2.0 release does in fact mean he's jumped ship.. no way would nukai condone that type of stint..

Who gives a **** who is appearing in adverts?
:WTF:

Exactly my thoughts......

But I admit the reason why I first started using an MPC was because of Erick Sermon/Redman used one to do 'Dare Iz a Darkside.' But since then, I have never bought a music production product because 'so-n-so' uses it.

yet you admittedly and proudly buy products solely because of the corporate label on them (many of them the first day they come out).

how is that different?

the 'mpc' label is as much marketing as saying producer x uses it. numark knew this and thats why they bought the label.

im definitely in the 'i dont care who uses it camp' cause i only buy after extensive research or a super cheap craigslist comeup...however it is funny that i only know this 'young guru' guy because of the iconic mpc release fiasco.

seriously, how is a celebrity's name behind a product different than a corporate label on a product? especially when some of these 'celebrities' are known for their affiliation with a corporate label?
in this particular case, neither the corporate label (classic mpc) nor the celebrity label have much at all to do with the development of the product.

it really does seem like ni is pulling out all the stops though in terms of humiliating the competition...and in the ni thread we seem to have traded one shill for another.

It's because Guru is/was Jay Z's engineer. he's not really a producer of sorts but I guess the Akai check and lack of Rock work made hanging with Akai viable.

Funny how things work.
9th Wonder caused Fruity Loops to gain a lot of respect and users, yet the first things he did when he starting being known to the world for working with big names was grab a 2500 and go Pro Tools.

Consumers are far more caught up in marketing than those who do the marketing or that we pay attention to.

Guru probably just never signed anything to give Akai any form of exclusivity because he had no need to.
They needed him he didn't need them.

When NI contacted him for an invite he probably saw another opportunity for a check.

Reminds me of how Jazzy Jeff has been a Serato man forever but he did some shows and videos using Traktor.
People said he had switched but it was more that he always had both and liked some of the things he could do with Traktor and used it for certain shows.

I guess we put more into the so called endorsements than they do.

I would say it started with that ghetto marketing Akai first did with the Ren.
Was pretty much just braggadocios and name calling like they had gotten the who hip hop community to support the Ren.

I will say that at $799 new the Ren looks much better than ever before.
The use prices should recenter within the next 30 days so that will make for some great deals if Akai doesn't cause you any issues with authorization.

Ren can be seen in two photos.

Pls don't lock this thread; I think this is an interesting topic and should be allowed to live.

This is how marketing works....invite some big names give them new hardware and take some photos....it has nothing to do with brands like NI or Akai....
