That's the thread we're on and he solved it by using another Mac (he was using a MacBook Pro and solved it by using an iMac).

I am using:

Apple Retina MacBook Pro (15-inch)
2.4GHz Core i7
8GB RAM
256GB HD
Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.5

If you're ever in doubt about your firmware/hardware versions just go to preferences select hardware
then select hardware info at the bottom of the pop up box

You can now see your serial no., firmware version, driver version, etc..

Very handy to know this.
