What was the timing the NuAkai purchase, maybe 2004 sometime, and last MPC400 OS, sometime in 2005?

Some overlap?

4K was the last one!

The last one of what?

4k was released in 2002.

That would have been from the pre-NuAkai company that went bankrupt in 2004?

Wasn't Akai already bought out by a different American company, in 1999, so was not really the original Japanese Akai by the time the 4k happened.

But, I think that the OS updates for the 4k were maybe still being released after NuAkai took over, in 2005?

So NuAkai were maybe stiffing 4k owners at the very beginning of their ownership.

I think that's basically what happened. There was even another OS update in the works that got shelved.

Ill Green was saying the 4K was the last MPC made before Numark acquired them.

No.

He said 500 and 5000 owners have been getting stiffed by Akai since 2007.

I said that 4000 owners have been as well (which they possibly were when NuAkai dropped 4000 OS support).

He disagreed...

Hellfire is right, thats exactly what I mean. Nukai had nothing to do with the 4k, it came with Akai when they bought it, they tried to sell what was left but were fumbled by the ingenuity of the 4k so they reinvented the wheel with the 1000.

But big deal, all of a sudden you're Jah? People gotta get it right or they're stupid? Nah man, you need to get off people's nuts because you're starting to look like a fag. And thats one to grow on.

Yeah, big deal, I made a comment that the 4k users were getting stiffed by NuAkai as well, which they were, you claimed it was nothing to do with them, but it was, really not worth arguing about, or getting your panties in a twist.

Talk about an overreaction, having a cry because I corrected a small piece of info, in which doing so I never said or implied that you were stupid, it is simply part of ongoing discussion.

NuAkai were still updating the 4000 OS, when they dropped support before completing it to the satisfaction of users, which is further proof of a culture within Akai of this sort of behavior.

The white 4000s are Akai. The Blue ones are Numarks. That's the clear demarcation point for Akai and Numark when the color scheme of MPCs switched to blue with the 2000XL and 4000.

The 2500 and 4000 are my two favorite hardware MPCs so props to Numark and Akai...and JJ.

But I don't think you can really blame them for not continuing to support a product that they did not create from the start. It's likely that they weren't even familiar with the programming side of the 4K. It's likely that when they bought the company, some of the old development team stayed on temporarily before being let go completely. This happens a lot with corporation acquirements. The new company agrees to allow some of the old employees to continue working for a period of time before replacing the old employees with their own people. For all we know, the 4K development team was kept on staff just for the purpose of getting the 4K to where it was at the final update.

This stinks I'd try updating on another computer like they suggest. Install bootcamp or VMware throw windows on it see if it helps. Or even resort to using ur boys computer to update. Is there factory reset on this thing ? It is possible whatever onboard chip this firmware gets applied to got corrupted IMO ...if nothing helps I'd try gettn it exchanged under warranty, have them send you one with already up to date firmware installed

My understanding is that Numark acquired the leftovers of Akai in 2004, at which point the 'blue' 2000xl/4000's were released. I always assumed these were just existing grey/white stock with a makeover and a CF card reader chucked in to the XL to make it more usable.

As for OS updates for these machines, not sure about the 4000, but the blue XL had OS 1.2 released in 2004 - however we were all already using 1.14c which I obtained from a beta tester in 2003 (this topic from 2003 mentions it), and 1.14c was basically 1.14 with a tweak to improve support for IDE devices (zip, CF card etc).

So my assumption was always that 1.20 was fundamentally the 1.14c beta that had been created by Akai Japan in 2003. I might be wrong though.

Were they already using some sort of external contractor to try and continue/finish the 4k OS, after threats or actual lawsuit from owners, just before NuAkai took over?...

If already a 3rd party programmer doing the update, then possibly not much to do with any on staff development team at the time?

Was Akai still developed in Japan, just American owned, from 1999-2004?

...if the following is correct...

Akai Wiki page wrote:New ownership of Akai Professional

In December 1999, one year before the application of Civil Rehabilitation Act to Akai Electric Company Ltd., the brand of their musical instrument division, Akai Professional was acquired by a company of the United States. The new company “Akai Professional Musical Instrument Corporation”[6] (AKAI professional M.I.) was established in the same year, however it was bankrupted in 2005.[7]

In 2004, following a US distribution deal, the Akai Professional Musical Instrument division was acquired by Jack O'Donnell, owner of Numark Industries and Alesis. Numark, including Akai Professional, was acquired in 2012 by inMusic Brands.
