mpc ren 1.6 update

Personally, I'd like to see 1.6 for Christmas but only if it's solid.... Otherwise, I can wait til Jan , likely right before NAMM14

NAMM makes sense, as a platform for update hype and therefore possible release date.

Is there any tangible evidence that they are working on 1.6 or even a Mavericks release?

Is there any indication that development has stopped, and that Mavericks will not be supported?

No announcement or indication that work is progressing leaves users and potential buyers in no man's land.

If someone buys a Ren and a new Mac today it won't work right.

One thing you can guarantee is that Akai won't announce when they've ditched the Ren and moved onto something else.

Yes, agreed, very poor communication from Akai to the user base about Mavericks support, still no mention of it on their website.

But we know this is how Akai operate, we are used to it.

You have to wonder how many users are out there trying to deal with this shit, without the help of resources such as these forums, how much frustration do they cause amongst users by not doing things right, and then not communicating.

With a hardware MPC they could wing it and occasionally suggest they might upgrade the OS (like with the 5K), but with an MPC tied to the computer they need to be on the ball, especially as Apple upgrade OSX every year.

I don't see development heading to doom just yet.

We also don't know how things are going to pan out with Akai and the software/controller MPC as yet, whether we will get ongoing support for old controllers in software updates as new controllers are released, 'if' they are released.

There seemed to be the feel from Akai early on, in reading between the lines and by what little they do say, that it would be supported and developed for up to 10 years, but later (in response to complaints of development time being spent on re-purposing Fly hardware to be an MPC Software controller) they seemed to back away from that and tie development to being dependent on the strength of ongoing sales, as you would expect it would be.

Who knows?

A simple statement on their site about Mavericks compatibility would be common sense though.

COMPATIBILITY WITH MAC OS X 10.9

As you might know, Apple's Mac OS X 10.9 has just been released. Currently, we are testing all Steinberg products for OS X 10.9 compatibility. The testing is still going on, so we can't provide you with the final results.

However, what is known so far is that all Steinberg software products (except for Cubase LE / AI / Elements 7.0.6) are affected by an issue with the CoreAudio2ASIO component when using audio hardware in class-compliant mode which may lead to dangerous digital noise. Some Steinberg hardware products need to be updated as well to ensure full compatibility with the new OS X version. We therefore recommend you not to upgrade to OS X 10.9 yet.*

We are already working on updates for affected products in order to make them available as soon as possible. We will keep you up to date.

Yes, all the DAW companies that I have dealt with over the years will put info up on their website about compatibility ASAP after a new computer OS is released.

It is poor form, but not surprising at all.

IMO, Akai wishes, at term, to release a full DAW (just before NI do it)… The full DAW will be sell as a paid update (NI did it with his new release), including people who have a Ren, Studio or Element. Plus, this Akai DAW will be compatible with all MPC (including pure hardware one) via a plugin type connexion…

I know Akai it's not a well know for its software, but they surely see that the future (read $$$) pass by this way… Why not a collaboration or the buying of a software cie (e.g. Ableton)…

Yeah they are working on the update as we speak...Akai Pete has posted tweets about it and they hired a new guy to work on the software so hope the new guy is good...Maybe all of us will be happy with the 1.6 and beyond!

I think an akai daw would be the end of them. They can't compete with apple, avid and steinberg, and all the rising daws. They need to stick to making a phenomenal instrument that can integrate with daws, not be one.

Once the daw market is fully saturated, which it almost is, the money will be in content and instruments. A hybrid hw / sw MPC makes much more sense to me. They way they left core features and integration capabilities out of the software doesn't reflect well on their ability to create a full fledged daw, let alone a competitive one.

i have a bran new mac and it works perfect was set up in 5 min verry happy with it,no crashes its perfect roll on 1.6
