In general I don't know why people are compelled to throw the last gen away and keep new. Yeah it would be nice to play older on newer consoles but it doesn't so keep old. Computers, different story, much more goes on that can be controlled by users.

With 2kxl and MPC4k, I don't feel compelled to "Ren myself" at all.

I feel you on that MPCTNT. But I'm changing my consumer habits. I feel it's kinda nonsense to keep buying these 1500 dollar computers over and over again. I am aware I will need a new MacBook Pro Jet Air lion mountain to control my 3D printer. Or my food replicator. But in ten years all it really is are bigger ram sticks larger yet smaller hd's and faster CPU. Nothing really magical. Granted we needed that power we didn't have. To run these virtual instruments. My wife has her lap top I have mine. My son on his ipad then my youngest running around with our iPads or iPods. We have enough technology in this house. It's hard keeping everybody off these devises to get some quality time in sometimes. There is no way I'm going to buy a different computer for each tech project I have. These tech giants want us to have ten comps in our house but this is ridicules. So on the note of staying with the old os and not allowing g your computer to upgrade is silly. Since they build these things to do more then what they initially do in order to get you to keep upgrading. And paying in to this scam. So ten years from now the ren will only work on this laptop you held in time.. Cool but it breaks on a road trip one day? Your ren is done. And all the Virtual tools on that laptop that worked fine won't work on the newest comp that akai did not creat drivers for.

Don't get me wrong I'm not trying to convince any of you to follow. Or do I think what I'm saying is law...

Metatron I couldn't agree more. All though I don't dig the work flow of the Maschine I have to say NI is killing it. Not sure who defjef is yet but I'll look into that. Akai needs some help. Dan and j sanded seem like nice guys but they don't really use a mpc or have they. Or this wouldn't be such a mess.

Godlike - no, I do not need to look at the little dots on a grid. Yes I like using the vst's but I usually only use simple channel strip dynamic stuff on the tracks. Eq' sand such. Rarely do I efx sculpti. I will do that in logic after the tracked down from 4000. Just like I did with 2KxL. See godlike I do really like what the ren COULD do. But it's. It doing what it's suppose to do is the problem. It's not like I'm expecting it to make my tracks for me. Just do what it's support to do with out a years worth of problems or work a rounds. So the answer is no.

Dryad, very true. I will only be able to stretch someone for 750 after spending 1300. Just a usb controller.

Lampdog, true but wouldn't it be little more logical to be able to use the one unit? And allow the older to circumvent the second hand round of users. So I don't have 7 powered devices crowding my tv. I'm all about holding on to the old but if the new can do both new and old well it should be consolidated. This goes for all technology. Apple really does expect you to repurchase your entire studio after ten years. Pro tools ten years ago? Pro tools now? I wanted the 4000 for years. Then this ren dropped and I was hooked. Fummy how I never jumped to the 4000 mainly cause of its price. And just not looking into it enough. I assumed the 2500 and 5000 would be better.... :-D :fku:
Price was high but I spent 1300 on the ren. :WTF:

If money wasn't so tight right now I'd keep my ren and get the 4000. But ya money is short right now. So I need to sell this or find a cat that would like to trade. :)

I really like what the ren has potential to do. It has been great when there was no problems.

Pk1, Def Jef is a guy who was on Delicious Vinyl in 89/90. He hasn't made records in years but he's down with all the old school golden age NYC producers and knows how to make beats himself. It was clear to me other than a brief sit down Pete Rock and Premier and Q-Tip really had no bearing on Akai's design philosophy. And as I mentioned they blew dough on some wack promo vids with a guy like Shawty Red.

So it's a small plus a guy like Jef is in regular contact with them.

Ya I figured after buying the ren that all the vid hype was just that hype. They never ran the ideas past these guys they had in those videos. They just built it thought it was dope and presented to these guys for sales marketing. Told them smile and talk excited and we will give you one. "With your name on it"! So I will assume none of those artist switched over. They may have tried and was like "wait a min Holmes this can't even do what my 2000 does!" Well yeah it does other things but all this talk on it doing what all other mpc do and more is just horse ish. Look Arrab sold his on eBay last year. And for some reason Jah hasn't been running around here ruining threads with his blind cheerleading. If Jah is t even in here telling us how wrong we all are. Something doesn't feel good to me about this anymore. God knows I'm not calling him in here to zombie text us all to an argument. That name def Jeff sounds real familiar. That's good. Cause honestly I really do want the ren to make it. I think it has all the potential. But i feel I'd rather watch it from the 4000 sideline.

The 2000XL could have used one more OS update with global edits, mute groups, and an extract function. That midrange MPC makes beautiful music though. Even though it wasn't made specifically for hip hop, it's the perfect Hip Hop instrument.

Shawty Redd's sound is legendary, but he doesn't sample too much, if he samples at all.

Honestly, I just need a high pass in the damn thing. Or an eq. I would have been happy.

On the real though. Real talk. Going to the Maschine and the ren. And that god awful toy most love and called a daw. :hmmm: abelton. And some Reason for a few months. They all really helped me find my style. They each taught me something or opened my eyes to something I didn't see on the 2kxL. Now when i went back it's a whole new ball game.
And she is a fine old lady if I may add.

AKAI did use the hip hop black producers in the videos to sell the Ren--this is very much clear. Some may fault them for their capitalism--but for them it is simply business. No different than a McDonald's commercial selling chicken bits with black faces dancing to hip hop on the tele. It may be stereotypes, but many people do not mind the imagery--some may even appreciate it, yes?

Absolutely right, but reality is, it doesn't play ps3 games. So, we find or hold onto old and/or other ways just like we do with vintage mpc's and gear. We can stand here all day and talk about what if's but still reality will win out everytime.

Example, No other kybd workstation I've played with has given me a nice non- cluttered touchscreen but Triton, I'll never change up until it completely dies on me :lol: There's way better on the market but I'm happy with what I got.

No my brotha. I do not. And really the color of these guys does nothing for me. They could have been purple. Come on man. We should be looking at each other like humans not colored humans. They used those producers to entice us but if your observed well, not one of those cats really made a track on it like they would usually. Not one actually did anything with it. They just flipped threw it with the wow glow in their eyes. Kinda like we do at guitar center. When we are banging on a new synth that we don't know how to get into yet. It wasn't the celeb hype that got me. I really dig the mpc line. There is no making music on a daw for me. I need an instrument.

Yes lapdog reality keeps biting us in the ass the moment we look away from it.
What triton is it that has the touch screen. I always wanted one of the newer Roland's they have been looking beautiful. And the sound is glorious.
