If i have other apps running in the backround, then i sometimes get those loud digital clips or distortion. That's an issue of the computer being taxed...but those little pops at the beginnings and ends of samples happen in every situation. And a lot of times they don't start happening until the samples are running in a sequence.

simoninaustralia,

do you use the ren? do you sample vinyl into it? do you chop samples?

i am not trying to be a dick, but im going to go out on a limb and say that you dont.

im not going to even answer if i have both input output to the ren, because that literally (if you knew the problem like the people who are experiencing know it) would have nothing to do with the type of popping issue that is occuring.

it is clearly a software issue they need to fix, nothing involving anyones mac or windows software, soundcard etc...

and the mixer integration is sadly not working properly. i have hte phono directly going into the ren, but that would have nothing to do with the chops problems etc that ppl are experiencing. its clearly not an audio problem but an mpc software problem.

Popping and crackling at random is a common problem with audio software when RAM is overloaded or if processor power isn't enough. I've never experienced popping or clicking apart from transients or non-zero crossing chops, I always have all other programs closed. So we have some users who experience popping and clicking, and some users who do. It's possible that it's a software issue that effects some computer systems and not others, but it's also possible that it's a hardware problem (computers either not fast enough or other programs/too many samples for your amount of RAM is choking up your audio).

Basically if you're having problems like this you need to post more than just the issue, you need to post your computers specs and you should probably post it in the akai community website so that the people who actually make this product can address it directly and give you the expert advice you need.

No, I don't use the Renaissance.

Was simply trying to provide some troubleshooting steps to see if you could sort out, or at least narrow down, the other part of your problem...

But forget I said anything, I wasn't trying to say that you were not having the problems you are, or that it isn't a software issue, I'm really not interested in some sort of argument about it.

Macbook pro from 2012 osx 10.7. All kinds of memory and ram. Big processor. No other programs running in the backround.

I'm talking about those small little pops at the beginning and ends of samples. The kind that you should be able to eliminate when messing with attack/decay, or trim mode with beginning/end points. But on the Ren it's impossible to get rid of most of these pops. And they happen at seemingly random times within the loop. Not always consistent when it happens. So annoying!!!

Is that with the beta Renaissance driver for Mavericks?

At least Apple announced on their site with the latest mavericks update, the new update fixes an issue that the sound without distortion on some mac models.

I had the Mavericks in the first version of sillon use and the problems started! All sample which recorded a machine internally or mic-line or phono-line went to crap also exactly noising electric / popping. I thought it was because mpc sound card problem or the other in my external sound card problems. I suspected that this is due to the transformer or other electrical problem.

Now, however, I noticed that when I read the new apple update label Mavericks will read this crackling problem and that it is due to their software problem! Useless to appeal to the MPC Renaissance is WRONG :)

I removed myself, at least the Mavericks and installed mountainlionin back, now there have been no problems with crackling!

Are you using AD-envelope, not ADSR-envelope? Does this happen even if you fade in and out the sample in Sample Edit -mode?

Are you guys experiencing these pops and clicks with factory samples that came with the Ren? Or, are these pops and clicks only with samples that you have created?

If you are only having the problem with samples that you created, then I may have a solution.

Also, have you tried opening the samples that have pops and clicks into another sampler/DAW? Are the pops and clicks still there?

lol no not factory samples. any samples either wav added into the ren or vinyl sampled directly into it

the pops only occur when trimming or chopping,

listen to the beginning of the drake song started from the bottom in headphones - the beginning though. you can hear where each sample cuts the other one off a poppy clip type sound is occurring. thats literally the sound right there lol

and no, personally i dont have another sampler, i sold my 500, and never ever once had that problem (because its clearly software imo)

I understand what it sounds like.

I think I can fix the problem. Take 3 samples from your Ren and email them to me.

Make sure that you can hear the audible click in each one. Also, make sure that two of the samples are ones that you would obviously use in a choke group.

Often times for me the pops won't happen when hitting the pad by itself of playing multiple pads live. It starts happening when they're programmed into a sequence. And its random. Sometimes between bar 1 and 2, sometimes between bar 3 and 4. Different every time the sequence loops around. Sometimes i make it through the length of the loop with no pops, but then they come back again.

Ok. I thought it may have been something in the sample itself along with how the Ren software handles samples. It sounds like it is something wrong internally with the Ren software.

is your ren connected to usb 2.0 or 3.0? I had sound popin problem for week, almost made me return my ren, I had to change bios settings for all my usb 3.0 ports to work as usb 2 ( my laptop only has usb 3 ports)

Do you have other USB 3 devices connected to your Mac Pro? Maybe you should unplug everything that is USB 3 and plug in the REN first so the port can config itself to 2.0. or just use a 2.0 usb hub on that port.

"If you plug in a USB 2 hub first, all devices connected or "daisy-chained" to that hub will operate up to the maximum transfer rate of USB 2 speed (480 Mbps)."
