I'm not sure what your wanting me to do. The only thing I can copy in Main Mode in the Sequence Box, or Window, is the name of the sequence, or export that sequence as a .mid file.

Why would that process of of "option 5" in the Edit Sequence window be changed in 1.7? I'm confused, and have been stuck with this project I'm unable to sequence for a day now...

My instructions are from the hardware

From the software, right click the pgm-> duplicate

I've had the Ren for about 2 years, I am either blind, or I do not see that option on the hardware. As for the software, I used 18 different programs and used sounds form each of those programs to craft all my 21 tracks. I'm still not understanding what program that is even right clickable. I'm lost my friend...

Again in 1.6 and earlier, I would normally mix all my levels with all of my tracks (21 in this case) playing at once in the Track Mixer screen. Once that is done, I mute all the tracks except for a few I want to use for this first sequence, now I'd have the first sequence I'd use in Song Mode. I'd copy that sequence in Main mode via the Edit Sequence screen and choose option 5, "Copy a Sequence". I would then go to that new sequence in the Track Mixer screen again, with this new sequence. I'd unmute a few more tracks I wanted to add to that next sequence and so on. Now in 1.7, the whole process works except for now, when I add changes to that second and new sequence, it changes it on the first sequence too. Is there a way to turn that feature off, or is it a bug? Whats a global mixer? Is this the cause?

From the hardware, cursor up to the sequence number near the top of the screen. hit the window button. copy.

The way you work, by using a number of programs across sequences and mixing and matching sounds from each isn't really condusive to the new mixer. The mixer being global means that any changes that you do in a mix will carry over across sequences so if you lower the volume on a snare in pgm 1 and sequence 1, the volume will also be lower on that snare in sequence 2 if you are using the same pgm. Get it?

Maybe Akai can add some type of option to either use or not use the global mixer in the future. If not, you are going to have to change the way you work a bit.

Thats another way to copy a sequence, but thats not the problem for me. The problem is when I copy a sequence, in any way, when I go from sequence to sequence on the Track Mixer page, I mute or unmute a track to be the next part of the sequence, it changes all the other sequences too. This just started on 1.7. Worked fine on 1.6 and earlier...

What other way is there to craft a song, when I edit each sequence after I copy it, and the changes won't stay because the mute on or off effects each sequence the same now? It used to work fine in 1.6, my workflow was very fast. Whats the point of song mode if I'm unable to edit a copied sequence, and make each sequence have more or less tracks on them, via the mute option on each channel strip in the Track Mixer screen? What other method is there? I must be lame to the game!

Yes.

The only way to work for you now is to copy pgms to another instance of the same pgm. For instance, your pgm 1 is your sample. You knock out sequence 1 with pgm 1 on track 1. Copy your sequence. Copy your pgm so its now pgm1-1. Put pgm1-1 on track 1. Do your edits on the new sequence. repeat. Get it? Also, you should be using the PROG MIX now, NOT the track mix.

Ummmmm, would we all agree there are a few ways, or where a few ways to craft a track on the software? The Program Mix never would show any levels for me, just the Track Mixer would. I've crafted hundreds of tracks using my old method. Who dictates what the correct workflow method is? Is there a way to turn off the global mixer option, or kick 1.7 to the curb and reinstall 1.6 somehow? I love all the other new features in 1.7, but its useless if I can't continue my fast and plenty effective former workflow. Nazis!

When I craft a new song, I add all the samples and sounds to each track. I'll play all the tracks at once. I go to the Track Mixer page and add any effect, and mix all my levels. I mute and unmute all the tracks to begin to see how I want to craft my song. I'll mute all the tracks I don't want in the first sequence, copy it, and now we have sequence 2. I'd unmute a few more tracks, and we would be done with sequence 2 and so on. Then I'd add each sequence in song mode, and there was my song, tah-daaa. Now I can't use this method anymore in 1.7? Wht not?

It does now.

The TRACK MIX is basically obsolete now.

I watched all the new videos. If I can't use my old loved and effective method, this Ren is no longer of any use to me. It worked great until the 1.7 update, now my workflow is gone. How do I turn off this global mode, and go back to normal? Can I reinstall 1.6 somehow?

Why don't you just mute or delete the events instead of mute the whole track?
I seriously doubt that would be global

The only workflow I was aware of, is what I've been using and making over the past few years. Hundreds of tracks in a pretty short time span. The workflow was fast and worked perfectly. I'm open to the new or proper method, however I'm totally lost...

I still don't get what you're talkin about man.

All your posts got me curious while i was peepin at work today. So, I just got home and laid out a little sequence with a sample on track 1 and kick, snare and hat on the next few tracks and then another perc track with a different program (3 programs total). I had no problem muting all but the sample, copying the sequence and adding in each drum track in each sequence i copied. Nothing affected any previous sequence. I also even tried recording track mutes differently on each copy. Seemed to work fine; nothing made other sequences change.

Isn't that what your trying to do or am i missing something in your workflow?

If you are actually copying a sequence, muting tracks, and that shows up on a sequence you are not working on, that is weird and not how my shit functioning.

I guess if you want you should be able to just download the 1.6 software from akai's site and install it..

:hmmm:

^The problem that hes having with his method would only show up in song mode. If he mutes the snare from sequence 3 it will mute across all sequences and when you put all the sequences in song mode, the snare is gone even though you just wanted to mute it on sequence 3. He's using a method of arrangement that a lot of MPC heads use which is a track mute arrangement. That method doest really work anymore. In order to keep the same type of work flow hes going to have to DELETE where he would have MUTED.

For the sake of argument, could you describe your work flow on the Software, and how does it differ from the muting option,am I missing out on a faster more creative producing method?

In 1.7 there are TRACKS and PROGRAMS in the track mixer. If you edit the programs, the changes are global. You can still set mutes and volume changes locally per sequence as you always did using the TRACKS (in track mix mode, the tracks on your computer screen that have blue meters are the ones you want to change if you only want to mute a track for one sequence independantly)

When you're in the track mix mode on your hardware, up the top of the LCD screen in the left there is a field now that switches the mixer between the Programs mixer and the Tracks mixer. Switch it to the Tracks mixer, and your changes will not carry across sequences, they are set for the sequence you are in only.

If you mute a track when its set to Programs mixer, it will mute the program assigned to that track, which is global - in this scenario you haven't actually muted the 'track' you've turned off the instrument that the track is sending messages to.

Purelogic, use the track mixer for muting or just pull their level down in the sequences where you don't want them to play…and your workflow is there, and this does work in song mode!

The pic there simply illustrates one program with its two separate mixer views: track and program. Program is global, and track is sequence-specific.

Boom!
