I guess you don't quite understand how the press generally end up reviewing products then. There's rarely any 'gifting' involved - review units are a temporary loan purely for the purposes of a review. After you review it, it goes back to the manufacturer.

Obviously there are exceptions, especially with low cost items and software, but the default process is that the magazine gets sent the hardware, they review it and the item is picked back up by the manufacturer.

No one wants to read biased reviews, you can spot them a mile away, and hence no serious site/magazine will risk their reputations doing so.

Yeah you're right. I don't know how it works precisely but what I meant is the importance of being independent.

I've seen many biased, fake or unprofessional reviews. Especially in magazines full of advertisements. That's why I don't read magazines anymore. Always late compared to the Internet

Generally, if you pay for something you can review it better I think. This also applies to movies, music, books...etc. The list is infinite.

its all about who is doing the reviewing; a fan boi could buy a product and brainwash himself into thinking its a good product
