we aren't really to know how many 'names' use the Ren or whatever anyway.......producers with a few quid in their pocket have probably got different projects going on with different gear....

I still love the Ren anyway....no more EB16....no more slow azz Zip Disks.......no more click of death.....no more waiting for the screen to refresh when chopping breaks.....

for people who want to make music without having to fork out for external FX racks, synths etc.....its a box of magic...

I thought they did consult some when designing the Renaissance?.....I'm sure I read they spoke to Q-Tip / Primo / PR?

or did I dream that?

Those guys have a different set of workflow skills, they stick to what they know, which is the older MPC's. Meaning limited functions. So to them Ren software 1.1 was probably ok, except for the crashes. But I do remember Jermaine Dupri complain about the crashes.
And Primo said, that he would stick to his old MPC.

Well, Primo and others are name checked in the software credits, but does anyone actually believe they had any actual input during the development stages, or do they just assume them to be nothing more than paid endorsements?

You don't see these guys actually using these machines - and Ren poster-boy Araabmusik appears to be still rocking his 2500 in all the recent videos I've seen (I believe he sold his free Ren on Ebay years ago).

The funny part here is that Primo is being instructed to how the device works, so it logically means he could not have been part of the project /process from the beginning.

As I said they have this old-school approach, so he puts a astray on the record, not knowing people use Shazam etc nowadays to track records identity.

That was before the release, afaik. The Ren has a pretty similar workflow to earlier MPCs.

I have not seen him on the Ren, so would not know. Niether am I in the scene as I used to be (meeting folks personally).

I did see The Large Professor and Marley Marl on the Ren.

The workflow itself is initially in essense of course the same. But older MPC's are limited due to hardware capabilities. The 4000 is somewhat of a different beast. I do own the 5K. And I had the Ren from the start, as a pre-order. I know about the limitations it had (and still has).

I'm not sure exactly what was said by Akai regarding his involvement, he's thanked for his 'time and energy' in the mpc software credits, but at some point people round here seem to have made the assumption that he was somehow involved in the development. Would be interesting to re-watch some of the early Akai promo vids/interviews to see if they elaborated on this.

every vid ive seen of premo for the last 3 or 4 years is all mpc ren; this is common knowledge, like in this vid u see the ren in shot; no mpc60 in sight.

I think that says a lot when you consider he didn't bother upgrading through the release of all the other MPC's...
