Sounds like they need to learn how to use the Event and Bar Copy function, but yeah, nobody is here arguing for a removal of a dedicated Song button altogether. Absolutely not.

xparis001 wrote:To sampling, most people we worked with will usually do all their sampling ini one sitting, or sometimes, they will grab several samples they want to use for a particular project at once. Consistently, they jumped in to the mode, recorded samples, and stated there for a while. There wasn't a lot of bouncing in and out. Again, this may not be your workflow, but it was overwhelmingly what we saw.

Who are these people you speak of and what genre do they produce? Are they known to be serious samplists or are they more in the keyboard player who use a few samples mode?

I guess the next obvious question is this...

What are the limitations once in the sample screen? Can we play our sequence(s) while the sampler is armed for recording?

The program buttons are obviously program edit, mixer, and browse for programs and all seem to be in the right place.

It does not need more dedicated pad bank buttons because most would never use all 8 banks in a program. Even those that do will usually be on occasion so it seems reasonable to not hog the space with 4 more buttons for one thing that most wont use.

I see the reasoning with the sample record. Most producers don't constantly hop in and out of sampling these days. They will use it like twice in a session and get to sequencing work if at all. Otherwise they go on a sampling binge and do it all at once. Still, it would be better with one button for when you have a hand on the vinyl to hold your place while you cue sampling. At least is should be short reach from shift if that is not possible.

I like having dedicated filters for browsing. Browsing for sounds is something I do constantly and it needs to be quick so I can find the right sound and get to work.

Here's an abbreviated list, which is by no way complete, but it will give you an idea:

Jermaine Dupree, David Banner, Def Jef, DiVinci, DJ Nu Mark, DJ Premiere, 88Keys, Flying Lotus, Jukebox, Kalil, Kay Gee, Keith Shocklee, Marley Marl, No ID, Prince Paul, Q-Tip, Salaam Remi, Scoop Deville, Scott Storch, Sean C & LV, Tommy Brown, Battlecat, Bangladesh, Drum Squad, Jazzy Fey, Shortee Red, DJ Toomp, Just Blaze, Brian Michael Cox, the cataracts

I know I'm forgetting people. We'll have a full site up dedicated to producers we've worked with soon.

You can play, record sample, all while the sequence is playing. you can also edit samples while the sequencer is playing. resample, or record in, whatever you want.

it's not taboo, I have a lot to answer, and this has already been answered elsewhere, so I went on to the other questions.

We will have rewire, but not for 1.0. soon after.

Also keep in mind you can enter sampling mode prior to searching the record if I am not mistaken. It should allow you to just tap an F key with one hand to start recording when you are ready?

I don't know half of these guys, but presumably they are all Hip Hoppers? I'm surprised you didn't limit the tempo range to 80-100 bpm!

I doubt any of these cats would welcome having their dedicated buttons relegated to a shift function either way.

Nice! That alleviates the pain to some degree. 8)

I am in agreement with these statements.

I know who most of those guys are. If you don't know who those guys are, simply google them or look on You Tube. Several of them have multiple videos up to include studio sessions, interviews, etc.

Props to Akai for consulting with avid MPC users. And if you have't heard that album....its available on iTunes.

That's definitely a respectable list. I know of all those people. And yes...I'm a Hip-Hopper lol. Thanks for the insight Dan.

So when will more videos be coming out with all the info about the MPCs and people demoing them with better sound and such, besides all these namm demos? If these are really coming out in the summer I'm sure akai will be kicking into promo mode in the next month or so
