Sample rates above 192khz have little point as humans couldn't hear the difference.

"Nyquist pointed out that the sampling rate needs only to exceed twice the signal bandwidth.

above 20 KHz, but there is little sound energy at above 40KHz. Most microphones do not pick

Dan said in another thread sub 5 ms was their goal for the Ren's custom driver...and have actually achieved about 2 ms on Mac Pro. Based upon your expectations you outlined here, the Ren will meet your ultra low latency requirement which should satisfy you. Also...seeing that the Ren/Studio can also use 3rd party soundcard and audio drivers...you can use an RME, Apogee, Motu, etc..and my preference..a Universal Audio interface. ALL of these companies have achieved ultra low latency with their products (some of them cost at or under $800). How? Who the hell cares as long as it works... :lol:

You type an awful lot on subjects that aren't even a debate, especially if "who the hell cares" is your final "answer". But again there was no debate, there was no argument. I said low latency takes work on the part of manufacturer and wondered if Akai was gonna hit the mark. I'm sure this is clear to most everyone who read my posts, except obviously you.

And you have been told several times and in different ways...the Ren ships with the low latency driver you desire. And there are several manufacturers that produce sound cards with low latency drivers that you can use with the Ren/Studio. This is no argument...just facts that you seem to miss.

How these companies produce low latency drivers? Who the hell cares. :lol: I personally don't need to see their code. You will never see their code. As long as the products work....you should be satisfied.

So I missed somewhere in your 1000's of post that a number had been stated by Akai. Why did you post twice before you mentioned this with nonsensical challenges for me to put on lab coat and run latency loops? Especially since it's obvious I wasn't aware Akai had quoted numbers. You could have just said the numbers and I would have said cool.

So I wasn't missing any facts. I just had not heard the info yet. The difference again would be obvious to anyone but you and the way you operate.

If you used the Search function (something I rarely tell people to do)...you would find this info written in multiple threads...and I believe there is a video somewhere that touches briefly on it.

I haven't and don't need to twist this topic in anyway. You made a statement and I asked your questions. If you answered them....I would have pointed out all the info you needed in my second response. Now that you have it...cool.

Again, just cut your shtick. People have to earn your answers that you could just simply state to move the discussion along? Asking for exact measurements on something universally accepted (hardware MPC low latency)? Whatever. If you knew the answer to your own questions and refused to divulge information that expanded the discussion what are you even trying to accomplish?

"Low latency has been confirmed". Next time do everyone a favor and if a discussion can be summed up with a sentence that small, then type that sentence.

Wait, what? :? The very purpose of being able to increase the hardware buffer setting is to ease the load on your system to prevent pops and clicks at the expense of added latency. This is a known common characteristic of software music recording and production. The more powerful your system, the more stuff you can run at a lower buffer. For example in my studio, I run an overclocked quad Q6600 at 3.4Ghz with 16GB ram and can't get the thing to hiccup at 64MB buffer unless I'm mixing a 60+ track in Pro Tools. And in my living room I have a Dell with a Q8500 at 2.6GHz and only 4GB of ram and can get that one to hiccup under a decent load before having to raise the buffer, but it still performs great. Even my 13" Macbook performs great. And so did the other 2 laptops I've owned as well as the various other computers I've built and help friends setup. However, when I tried running my old Pentium 4 starting out, I couldn't get shit done!

I don't know what you're really asking, but anyone with any music software experience knows that when you load on the plugins, it hammers your system. Doesn't even have to be with production software. You could be mixing a huge record with a load of plugins and some look ahead limiters and compressors and such and your shit will start popping like popcorn, or crashing and giving buffer errors. This happens in ALL music software and it's dependent on your hardware resources.

Computers are so powerful today that you don't really need some stripped down, bare bones OS to do music. Shit, I run my internet browser, itunes, and a shitload of other background crap without a problem. There are tons of professionals out there using software without problems, even on stage, especially using apps with 64 bit capability and multicore support. It also helps to set the app to a decent resolution. There is no way to make music with a resolution higher than 48kHz. Even 44kHz is fine. Then when you're ready to actually track and mix, you can bump up the buffer and the resolution. It helps.

I'll state this AGAIN as no one has yet responded to this, but there is NO WAY that even a $100,000 grand piano with HUNDREDS of moving parts that have to actually MOVE before any sound is made when you press a key, will be more responsive than a properly functioning software production app. ESPECIALLY as that grand piano starts to wear!

Well, I doubt there will ever be a "do it all" program that has all the functions of the best production app + all the functions of a DAW app + a dedicated hardware controller. So the demand to run multiple apps is going to be around, even if we do get this magic OS. For example, Maschine, I personally only like using it in standalone mode while making beats and only using it inside Pro Tools to track. But other people like using it as a VST in Logic, Ableton, or Pro Tools while they are composing. To me, I think this may be where a lot of people probably run into issues with resources. But even still, a beastly computer can handle it if set up properly! I mean, people are doing it. I'm not making this shit up! :lol:

Well, I can't say I have issues with the fact that OS's do too much, but I do agree that it could be nice if there was a specific music OS, as long as any music software worked with it. But, I'm not sure I'd actually go out of my way to use it over a standard OS.

I never said or implied you have to earn my answers. You wrote a post wondering about latency. I do not know your background, understanding of the subject, or intentions. So I asked you a few simple questions to guide and expand this discussion...which of course you didn't exactly answer....which is your right not to do. However, none of the questions I asked you were offensive in any way and shouldn't have been perceived negatively. Apparently, you took them that way...which says more about you than me.

Now you want to question or direct me how to answer in this thread and future discussions. :lol: Well...in turn....if you had responded to my questions with "2.7 ms of latency is what I would expect from the Ren in order to satisfy me and/or compete with the solid timing of hardware MPCs"...then I would have immediately wrote that Dan achieved about 2 ms which is talked about in at least 2 other threads. I would have then pointed out that you can use any sound card that you like when using the Ren making latency issues a non-factor for many of us.

When you post in the forum, it is assumed you want replies and a healthy discussion (agreements and disagreements are ok). Some replies may be statements or questions...you may like or dislike the responses. But that is what discussions are all about. There is no need to get defensive or upset.

Not sure why either. But there is at least 1 more interview where Dan discussed actual latency...if I recall correctly.
