No you didn't. You just wrote a bunch of general stuff that simply clouds the issue at hand. Your 'facts' will only mislead people who don't know any better...

Full 64 Bit apps are still new. Waves just released Version 9 of their products to support 64 Bit OS earlier this year. UAD is still working on updating their plugins. Engineers have been and are still creating 'big' projects with 32 bit plugins. Using the Ren (32 bit) will be no different.

This is your answer.

No matter the host, if the actual plugin is 32 then the plug is restricted to 4.
I haven't done the reverse so idk about that one.

No matter the host, that actual plugin is 32 and is therefore restricted to 4.

But wrong set of questions.....

dorsey wrote:Well 64 bit is very much needed for logic. Big sessions need to run in 64 bit or you run out of ram very quickly. And running the Ren under the 32bit bridge causes crashes and also, put the ram limitation back on the ren as a plug in....

This all stems from this quote.

Logic and many other DAWs have been on 32 Bit systems for a long time running a 'huge' number of tracks and plugins. So for someone to write today that you can only have big sessins if your are running 64 Bits, I sought clarification on the meaning of 'big' as obviously there are engineers, producers, hobbyist creating larger sized projects.

Maschine's 64-Bit support, IMO, is kind of cancelled out by the lack of multi-core support. So 64-Bit Maschine doesn't really have much edge over 32-Bit MPC.

Speaking of Multi-Core, can anyone with Ren confirm whether or not it currently supports multi-core?

I am not well versed on aspects of multi-core. I wouldn't even be on this darn computer (outside of talking sh!t in the forums) if it weren't for products like Maschine and the Ren. How can you determine if an app supports multicore processors?

On another note...I just created a project (more like a test). 128 tracks, 3 programs, 384 samples...total size 1.3 GB. Can't do that on another MPC.....

JAH wrote:64 bit apps have not been around that long and individuals are still running 32 apps with huge (100 track projects).

Well, it depends on what you're doing. If it's a 100 track project that's being mixed, you can just crank up the buffer and run the shit all day without a hiccup. Or even at a low buffer, if it's 100 tracks of live tracking, a 32 bit app will do just fine. But if you're producing a song with some heavy VST's/VI's, you can't just raise the buffer to prevent your shit from choking because it will cause unbearable latency. This where 64-Bit would come in handy. A lot of Pro Tools users complain about this every day and many rewire 64-Bit Reaper into Pro Tools and let Reaper handle the load of the instruments and just track/sequence in Pro Tools.

With that said for people just making chopped up sample based beats, 64-Bit is overkill. Even if you use VST plugins for eq/compression/delay, etc, most don't use much resources at all. 64-Bit is really only beneficial for those that use heavy Virtual Instrument plugins that use a lot of RAM and CPU.

Usually, in the audio settings menu, there is an option to use multicore or not. In Pro Tools 10, it's in Setup/Playback Engine, and you select the number of cores Pro Tools is allowed to use. For example, I set mine to use 3 cores at 90%.

This statement doesn't make any sense in this context. You asked a very vague question, I covered the caveats regarding 64bit, et al. You then go on to state that I was a part of a group who made specific implications, which I wasn't and had nothing to do with. You then ask more questions which I addressed. Only then to go on to say that you don't even understand the topic. If what I have typed is so "general" and you still fail to understand, there is always Google. Come back, if you wish and let's have this conversation once you understand the subject matter and it will no longer "cloud the issue". Why argue frivolously about something that you admit to not understanding?

I'm not sure what you wish to achieve here but I cannot change the facts simply to cater to what it is you want to read. You have three people here telling you essentially the same thing. The facts and technology governing 64bit computing have been around in tangible form for over 40yrs. It is not prerequisite for audio production but my goal was to clarify upon it's concepts, as you inquired. If you know something that we do not or can disproved very well known facts, please do enlighten us.

of course 64 bit isnt necessary......hell even a computer isnt necessary to make beat is it lol.....thats not the point...the point is numarks claim to be a game changer and then dropping a 32 bit app

this thread is about numarks lousy release campaign for this product......the first few items started shipping the day AFTER NI announced their new maschine....co-incidence...i think not....

how many threads have been created in this forum so far about release dates?
how many more will be created about release dates for the US, EU & rest of the world?

you cannot deny that its a farce

they havent even announced the release on thier site
yet Dan comes in here saying its released....only it hasnt really been released, only a couple of units sent...to keep the hype going....and to make some profit for Oprah :-D

As I told you guys (in another thread), GC/Musicians Friend got a small first allotment, after those were gone we would not see them til October at all other places and GCs would get their second batch.

This is not uncommon for them (or any company really) to get a small first batch as they were likely air shipped from the manufacturer. The larger 2nd batch is about 1-2 months later because its on a shipping container somewhere on the sea.

I shall do just that.

Since I have Logic Studio and the Ren sitting in front of me. I have them both installed on a modest setup....2.3 GhZ Core i5 with 8 GB Ram.

Apple boasts that Logic can do 250 tracks with hundreds of plugins on their website....but whatever.

What would you like me to do to test the power of the Ren (in your words the lack of power) and Logic Studio? How many and what type Logic Tracks I should have? What plugins should I use (stock plugs)? How many Ren Tracks? Etc, etc.
