It does copy the sample, so it does work. But, you can not have different edits on the copied samples. All of the samples will act in unison once copied. I don't know why anyone would need this feature other than for live performances--finger drumming but not production.

If this is the case that is fked up as that was one of the most request feature that we gave feedback for. Dude told us it was in there. What the hell!

1. Press [DUPLICATE] button
2. Strike source pad (the pad you want to copy)
3. Strike destination pad(s) (one or more pads)
4. Press [DUPLICATE] button

Results - Duplicates copies all the params (Voice, Pitch, LFO, etc) of a sound slot and applies it to one or more sound slots. This includes the sample.

MPC Ren's Copy Pad:
1. Press [SHIFT] + [PAD ASSIGN] buttons
2. Strike source pad (the pad you want to copy)
3. Press [CURSOR DOWN] button
4. Strike destination pad(s) (one or more pads)
5. Press F5 [DO IT]

Results - The params of the source pad (Sample, Envelopes, Filters, Effects, etc) are copied and applied to one or more pads.

MPC Ren's Edit Zones
1. In Program Edit Mode Edit Zones section, select the [MULTIPLE] box
2. Click on two or more Edit Zones pads
3. Change any Program Edit Mode param

Results - Any changes you make to one pad will be applied to all pads that you multi-selected. Setting Edit Zones to [ALL] puts Program Edit Mode into 'Global Program Editing'. Any changes you make to one pad will be applied to all pads in a program.

On the surface, it looks like Maschine's Duplicate is similar to the Ren's Copy Pad. But the way Maschine handles sounds, it can do something the Ren can't do within thiese related functions. Maschine can place the same sample in multiple sound slots/pads. When you edit one sample (start/end points, reverse, normalize, etc) it doesn't impact the same sample assign to a different sound slots. This allows you to get creative and use it as nondestructive chopping.

With the MPC Ren, if you assign a sample to multiple pads and then edit that sample (start/end points, reverse, normalize, etc), this editing will be applied to the sample no matter where it is used to include on multiple pads. This is how MPCs work. You have to make numbered copies of the sample to get around this.

Go back and read that thread when this was being discussed. I could be wrong but I don't believe you all got your point across.

In more than one thread I personally asked Dan for the function and sent videos of how it worked in maschine and on the MV 8000 with the express aim to copy the sample and edit the start and end points like them individuality. Dan watched and said he understand, tested it and stated that it worked. The only question then was to have a dedicated button for it or not. The 4k already has copy pad parameters within program edit and the 5k may too. But we never needed that on the front panel. That is for coping filter and envelope settings from one pad to the next. Cyrus, myself, I think Hellfire and others were specific in the detail we wanted and the possibility of using a dedicated button. Still I think project and some of the other button could have left out.

From the videos it the seems the start and end points can be set independantly from region as the author said it a beautiful thing but that is from the computer screen. We wanted the duplicate workflow on the hardware and it seems that they changed thier minds and went a different way.

That is messed up. You can't sugarcoated jah. I'm on the iPhone when I get to a desktop I will pull up the thread and posts that said it was impedimented.

I had the same discussion. Obviously it was misunderstood.

im glad I never got used to this function lol.

That WOULD be cool though, but I don't think its a workflow breaker. At least not for me.

I got something even better (for my needs) that is in the Ren. Check it out:

1. Load up a 8 bar drum loop

2. Enter Sample Edit Chop Mode

3. The drum loop is already sliced Recycle style via threshold (32 slices)

4. Press [Audition] so you can play the slices from the pads. Doesn't matter if its not perfect.

5. Press Convert Button

6. Set Convert to 'Sliced Samples'

7. Turn 'Crop Samples OFF'

8. Set 'Create New Program On'

Results -
Baaammmm! You just created a program made up of slices. So you are thinking....so what? That is nothing out of the ordinary.

But when you actually look at the program, you will see that the 32 slices are duplicate copies of the original drum loop. The only thing different is that these duplicates have different start/end points AND the samples are intact. They were not truncated. So now you can go into sample edit mode and make additional adjustments to the start/end point of each sample.

I love this feature. 'Nondestructive Chopping'.......

If you turn 'Crop On' that is will create a traditional destructive sliced program .

Yes Jah, that is another way. But, the ability to sample something and place it on one pad, then truncate and duplicate (like Maschine) is faster.

The chopping function Ren (especially with the poor sample editing features--as I keep mentioning) does not give the user the same level of control over your edits as Maschine. Ren does the chops for you, then you can go and re-edit to your desire. The duplication ability in Maschine allows you to chop in steps (so you can 'feel' what you are doing), without having to make copies and program pad assignments--which is the old approach to chopping. Ren's chopping feature (which is not a new idea) is okay for me, but if you are used to using Maschine's duplication process (dedicated button or just the ability) to chop samples you will not be happy with this feature in Ren.

I thought maschines chopping was horrible and ive been choppin samples for over 10 years.

Nah duplicate on maschine is nice and 12 plus years on various mpcs. It isn't region slicing, you copy the sample and set the start and end points as you you like.

I don't like nor use Maschine's "chopping" feature--that is not what I'm speaking about above. Maschine's "Duplication" that can be used for chopping is what I'm talking about.
