I have same issue, wether using soundcard in mpc or my computers audio interface. The CPU load stays low , and althought it sounds like a buffer problem (the static) there is no heavy CPU use, computer function remains normal.. And to fix it all I gota do is open preferences, chance an audio option to whatever and then change it back.. Then it doesn't happen again for awhile.

Strange.

Side note - the chance of this happening is doubled by having "monitor" on and leaving record sample window open for long periods of time ( though even with record off ) .
So yea that sounds like a buffer issue - but there should nooooo reason for that to happen during such a simple task with NO background stuff goin on

It happens quite often if you don't have enough RAM and / or too many tracks playing alongside. 4 GB RAM isn't a lot (although I run my machine on 4 GB also), but remember closing applications you don't need. Avoid any programme to use up workload of your RAM since this might mess with you buffer size. Also, if the DSPs are of poor quality or used via an older bus like USB 1.1, you'll be sure to find artifacts on your recording. Peaking CPU usage is mostly caused by virtual instruments and effects (e.g. VSTs), but the same processing can be done by a proper DSP, which makes room for your other applications.

Bearhead, have you tried using another interface in MPC software? Does it produce the same issues? This way you could exclude a hardware problem. I guess, normally restarting MPC software solves the problem, which would be another indicator for not enough RAM...

This still happens on my computer, not only when recording a sample,
but also when I use play a song(Youtube for example) on my computer and I use
the Ren and my studiomonitor for the sound.

I am on windows.

Ive had this issue since 1.0, something is up with the Ren's built in audio interface, I stopped using it because it always gives me static when I sample through it and I have everything hooked up correctly. It's not a broken/bad mpc because sometimes it would be fine. I just use my other focusrite interface to sample in and out, I dont even use the Ren's audio interface. If you go to akai's site you will see there are similar issues with all of akai's interfaces so I think it's the way Akai builds there audio interfaces. They need to figure this stuff out before releasing products to the masses.

How it happens for me now is it works fine while I'm searching through records and tapes to sample from. By the time I find something I want to use, it starts doing that. It's every **** time, too!

Then everyone would be having this issue.

I have two Ren's.....one of them I have had for almost a year. I haven't encountered this issue. I am on OSX 10.7.5.

moyphee wrote:This isn't first time users have complained about the Ren's interface being distorted or full of static.

It's also not the first time a user reports a problem and others flawless performance as if the problem is isolated to that user when it clearly isn't.

I don't doubt one or more forum members have 'problems' with their units. But clearly, many of us don't have any problems.

Forum members having problems with their units should return it and get a working unit like the rest of us. All Ren's are still under warranty as they have only been on the market for 7-8 months. It sounds silly for someone to claim they have a problem and don't return it. In this case, complaints sound suspect.

You can't speak for the majority simply because you haven't come across this issue.

Also, it's not exactly simple to go all the way out into town to replace something that should've worked to begin with.

When I say majority, I am talking about forum members. And most of us don't have this problem based upon the number not responding in this thread or in the bug report regarding the issue at hand.

There is no need to go out of town to address your problem. Call Akai or an authorized service center, get a return authorization, and send your Ren in. This has been suggested more than once.

Or you can use your Ren as is with the 'annoying sample problem that won't go away'. Logic dictates your created this thread in hopes to get your issue addressed. But it is time for you to help yourself and heed the advice already given.

This is called 'real talk'.

The problem is the AD [Analog to Digital] converter, cpu and the ram is out of sync. The software is not taking full advantage of the AD converter and is relying more on the cpu. This causes the cpu to do double duty of converting analog to digital and feeding the 0s and 1s to the ram in realtime. If the AD, which is also a processer did what it was design to do. The cpu would have one job and that is to transfer the data at a 1:1 ratio to the ram and there will be no grainy noise.

Like with graphics. The GPU, CPU and the Ram play a part to play a pc game and if the game rely on the cpu for graphics. The game gets laggy.
