i thought of this yesterday but i just thought whats the point they just don't
understand that you want one hand hittin the pad the other scrolling and zooming
this would work perfectly and make editing a dream. these small pieces of detail
really can have huge impact on work flow. i've given up on the them ever getting the zoom right. once they committed to shift cursor there's no going back i just use the mouse which i was hoping to get away from, it's really a shame.

but on a positive note the edit page is so much quicker now it's a vast improvement

New product + it's software = no reason to give up.

Functions can be changed....have been changed....and will most likely continue to change as the product matures.

Yeah man
Theres too much procedural thought in how akai are approaching their UI's that was evident in the 5k. It really is up to us to try to balance this out. Unfortunately this board is the only visible space for that other than akais board.

Peter I think created the 5k OS and now the Ren

Its up to us to put the musicians/composer take to the programmers to encourage them to think like we do. We want to edit samples more efficiently they need to implement some kind of zoom function.

By viewing things from our point of view i.e. we are trying to carry out a musical whim not a function hopefully we can push them to make a computer program that adapts to our desired end destination rather than simply adding endless seperated functions. Akais strong focus on the historical precedent for how things were done in previous MPC's is in my opinion a danger to progression.

The 16 touch sensitive controls are a potential gateway to so many brilliant ergonomic strategies I hope Peter finds the time to really think about unlocking there full potential.

Anyway at least things are improving.

JAH wrote:6. Audition Programs. The Ren has a feature to allow you to audition slices directly from the pads. But it could really use the same type of function for sounds in a program. I would like to see a function in Sample Edit Trim where the pads play the actual sample assigned to them within a program. So when I strike Pad A01, it plays a 'Kick' drum sample and the sample's waveform is displayed in the editor. Then when I strike Pad A02, to plays a 'Snare' drum and the sample's waveform is displayed in the editor. This would make editing samples across an entire program effortless.

I really believe the function above will improve sample editing workflow significantly. However, an alternative to this one would be the MPC 5000s 'Selecting a Pad's Sample to Edit' function.

The MPC 5000 can easily jump to a sample from the current prorgam from within Trim Mode. To do so, do the following:

1. Press and hold the [LOCATE] button. "Hit pad for prorgam sample" is displayed on the LCD.

2. Hit the pads. You can audition the samples assigned to the current prorgam while holding the [LOCATE] button.

3. When you have found the sample you wish to edit, release the [LOCATE] button. The Sample will be automatically selected/displayed in the waveform editor.
