Everyone knows that I am an MPC aficionado. I don't care who owns the company. I spend all day discussing products I enjoy. You spend all day discussing products you hate. I don't make a dime off of an MPC. That is why I don't rant about a drum machine. Why do you rant when it doesn't impact your life?

If Akai is not listening...why spend a minute giving them any thought?

I guess I'm one of the few that actually make a living using music gear. My first mpc and keyboard paid for themselves double in a few months when I started making a living. While I think its nice you defend Akai, whether you like it or not, you know the program crashes when you close it, and you know this is frequent event, not something that just happens every 50 times. Be honest, I love Akai too, but I'm just saying.

Toggling a 10.5lb device is not ideal in today's standards because most people prefer to just carry a computer/midi controller thats already at 10 pounds. What if I'm on a plane and I want to make some quick edits on the software during my trip? Not with the renaissance unless you are catered like a king on coach.

Back in the 70's-early 2000's, you would see the guys carrying their minimoogs, asr10s, or motifs, mpcs, but if a company is playing in the software game (portability and convince), then they need step it up. I know it, you know it, and many more do.

I personally dont think anyone hates AKAI, or their MPC (I dont nor do I spend all day hating products), I think most people feel like the system can be improved. It's like buying a car that system crashes when you turn it off.

I hope Akai proves me wrong and 1.5 is not just a bunch of slightly new features and more crashing.

v1.5
- Pads now can change black and white.
- Able to change color of tracks.
- Able to email akai direct within the program.
- Able to add metadata to mp3 export.
- Able to import metronome sound.
-Oh yeah, the software will crash every 22 times instead of every 10.

I checked all of your 15 posts...most of them in this and another thread. I won't assume to know or acknowledge anything that is going on with your set-up without detailed info. Didn't we have this conversation before?

So the program crashes when you close it? Post your system specs, OS version, plugins you are using, crash report, etc and I'll have your issue looked into. Do you lose any work when you close the software? Can you post a video of this?

Please add this info to the bug report thread if you have an issue. Not reporting something and then hoping it will get fixed? Not likely.

Thanks.

the original question of this tread is very legit, because we all saw what akai did with user requests in the past - for the most part they ignored them.
so why should it be any different with the current product line? they claim to be fixing some of the most urgent bugs and maybe actually roll out some new features, but still they pissed off a lot of users with their behaviour and strategic changes over the last years.

remember the 2500 was their flagship mpc at some point and the 1000 was the transportable, smaller sibling. we all reported bugs and asked fore some new features for the 2500, but all akai did was to implement nearly all the features of the 2500 into the mpc 1000 os 2.1 and did not nearly as much to the os of the 2500. there are still some bugs left in the 2500 os up to this day.
yes i know that jj was one of the programmers and he did a great work with all his versions of the os for the 1000 and the 2500, but i still take it with a grain of salt that akai promised ongoing updates and bug fixes for our machines even as they released the 5000 and then did nothing!
instead they clearly showed that they wanted to screw the customers by releasing the rebranded mpc 3500 as the mpc 5000 what was obviously only marketing driven.
and they somehow forced the only (?) person that was able to do good programming for the 1000/2500 out of the company.

and then they provided the users of the mpc 5000 with bug fixes and updates and somehow forgot the 2500 users once again.
what makes you so sure that the renaissance/studio will not see the same small update period and then will be burried, because nukai has some new product to sell?

so i repeat my question over and over again: if nukai is not willing or able to support their legacy then why do they not make the os open source, so we can find programmers that fix the bugs and implement some new features into the os? saying this i do not want to steal anything from jj, because he also deserves his success, because he showed what the hardware is capable of, but i only want to confront nukai with some of their bad customer relationship.

it is one thing if a company clearly shows that they do not care for their product after you bought it or if they try to pitch sales by promising that they will care. the difference is like in politics - if you do not do anything for the people they will be a bit disapointed, but if you first promise and then do not deliver they might call you a liar and never trust you again.

after all this years i still love my mpc2500 and it still can do everything i bought it for and still better and tighter than any hybrid setup i used over time, but it just would be nice to see another official os update that fixes the last bugs and introduces some features that will improve that machine a little bit, like global program edit or the usage of the q-links as midi controllers. this update should be free of charge because they promised, but it does not have to, because if nukai is that desperate i would even pay a reasonable amount for it because i understand that from a business standpoint the developers must also be paid and we could not expect free upgrades forever. but the bugs still should be fixed for free, because we paid for a working unit and our money had to be real and legit also. so nukai if you want some of your reputation back then be nice to the customers who helped you survive and show that you also care for your legacy besides exploiting the mpc name and the good heritage others build for you in the past! thank you!

peace, jo

Mine does this ever since 1.4 on every computer I own; iMac, Mac Pro, Custom PC. However, it doesn't affect usage of the software in any way at all! It's just an annoying pop up box more than anything!

Same thing here running OS X 10.7.5, Ren v 1.4. It will crash upon quitting almost 80% of the time. This is running projects with only 1 Kontact 80's Drummer instance and MIDI tracks. Most every project I have created only has a total of 5 to 7 tracks.

What OS are you running, perhaps it's related to Lion.

To the Op,

Thanks for this post. I am mostly in full agreement with your post. Hopefully the beta testers that have chimed in will get your concerns over to the right people.

I wish that Beta testers would disclose their role for Akai before chiming in (should be a forum rule, it is on other forums I frequent). :Sigh:

To answer your question, I do not think that Akai will ever "listen" to their customers. They may or may not take note of customer concerns, weigh those concerns against their bottom line and strategies...

....and there you have it (customer likely ignored).

Further, their are some feature requests I consider (my opinion) completely dumb, and I would ignore if I was Akai.

Thanks,

Charlie O

Go to the 'ABOUT MPC' page in the software. The names of beta testers are listed.

I got my list from the source. But I choose not to "bust" people out, and let them decide to announce themselves. And I take their posts here with a giant grain of salt. Not to mention everyone here usues a alias.

That page is the 'source'. And no one on that list is hiding under any alias....at least not the outside testers who everyone knows here.

But implying beta testers should go above and beyond to let you know who they are makes about as much sense as a forum policy that makes it mandatory to reveal what MPC you are using.

A lot (and I am talking 90% plus) of the members posting in this sub forum do not own nor have even tried the software. So it is more logical to take what they say with 'a giant grain of salt.'
