While the bickering on the forums did not influence my purchasing decisions, other factors did. When I was thinking of buying the 5000, seeing reports of them going down, and OS issues definitely made me stay away. I realize some people dug theirs, but any potential buyer is going to weigh people who have issues vs those who don't. In most other hardware that is not as much of an issue. None of the Yamaha Motif's could be faulted for having a buggy OS. While there are always thing about new models that might be different that older users don't appreciate, All the other hardware companies seem to offer new models that have extra polyphony, Ram, higher sound quality etc. Only Akai seemed to offer hardware models that had certain key specs lower then their older flagship. Imagine the next flagship Korg workstation going back to 128mg Ram for instance.
AKAI seems to have an issue to where they have no room to have a loss leader. NI has so much software that even if Maschine didn't sell as many units (or any software of theirs for that matter,) they didn't have to abandon ship as they are making money on so many inter related products. AKAI doesn't seem to have that. They do stupid things like develop a line of guitar pedals which can't compete with the already over saturated boutique effect market in which they had no brand recognition.
