All in all, if I could find "an offer I couldn't refuse" on another 4k, I'd get another... or even a blue 2k XL... but I'd still hang on to my mpc studio.

I found that whether it's any MPC, hardware or software, NI machine, a Roland, Korg, or Yamaha workstation, or just VSTs any any DAW, it's more than we had when all we had was turntables, a Tascam 4 track cassette, a casio keyboard, and cheap mic.... and we made music then.

I am optimistic that most of us can make music on whatever we have to... but for those of us that are fortunate enough to get some of the things we want, get what inspires 'you' and make music.

That threw me as well, I got it, I think. Color had nothing to do with what I was saying (however I DO think the marketing was/is corny in part cause of the several reasons pk1 stated). I do get pk1's point though, I do.

Im having a hard time understanding why someone who used legacy MPC products would not love the Studio. I understand the frustration with the price point on the Ren, but otherwise the MPC Studio is something I would have loved to have when I started out on a 2000XL in 2001. The Studio took a few sessions to get comfortable with, and be able to really get samples to where I wanted but man all the sounds, the effects, everything. I paid $1400 for a 2000XL over 10 years ago, it had no sounds, no 8 outs, no expanded memory, no SCSI, no ZIP, and no effects board. I mean, really.

Right... I remember what I had back with my earlier MPCs I got that and more out of my Studio, and then some.

I guess I'm crazy for liking to see everything in color on my PC screen and doing chops and edits and such there instead of my small MPC LCD. (Funny that when some of us were stuck looking at MPCs LCD, we often said, "man I just wish I could do this on the PC's large screen") Well, I can and without all those floppies...

Still, it's all about preference and and what works for the individual and this way doesn't work for everyone.

Why would someone not love the Studio?
A good place to start would be those sh*tty encoder knobs.
The low profile makes grabbing them next to impossible and they are too slippery to spin.
If that was the design they were going for they should have at least given them an indentation for your finger.
They are an epic fail in their current state.

The only thing my Studio does is makes me appreciate my Ren more. :Sigh:

Some of you guys have no clue about the ren and what akai did exactly I know people that worked hands on with akai to design and create ren, it was a lot of work involved but then again some people are never satisfied

If someone is not gelling with the features or workflow, it makes no **** difference to them who you know that worked on it, or how much work was involved!

The onus is on the developer/manufacturer to deliver, not the consumer to pat them on the back regardless of the reality of the product.

I apologize if I did offend the hip hop black producers as pk alluded--that was not my wish. You are correct color does not matter, the music that is made with the MPC Ren/Studio lacks color.

I am happy to know that many of my friends on this forum were not fooled by AKAI's use of those blacks in the initial marketing videos. Thank you all for the comments too--many are quite fun. Keep the music fresh, yes?
