I think it could be twice as good, on one hand it could be a complete standalone unit, along with operating seamlessly with a DAW, i.e. VST plugin, with improvements, and additions for computer operation, this would actually cover both sides of the fence, one as a plugin or with the software and a new feature such as full implementation of "Audio" tracks would make it a full blown DAW within itself complete with appropriate audio editing, and USB 3.0, and as a complete self-contained standalone unit makes it perfectly situated for "Live" applications, this thing could end up the best of both worlds as I see it, can't wait for the finished production model, my concern would be more in the area of would I get a discount on the new controller hardware by trading my Renaissance in, and obtaining the new Renaissance 2 hardware, and simply upgrading the software to the newest version....I always see the glass as half full.
