Holy Crap!

40MB for a kit seems a bit excessive (The biggest kit that ships with the Ren is 6.8MB).
I've been making beats with the Ren for over 2 years and my folder is just a little over 4GB.
If you're sampling a 5 second part from Beethoven's 9th you might want to crop the sample

That being said, we're looking into improving sample/file management. Per usual, can't promise anything yet.

Regardless how it saves defaultly or by choice. When we ask it to purge unused samples. please remove them from saved folder as well.

At this point if you chop a 4 bar sample, and choose to change it. so you can make edit to original sample before re-chopping. Now if you delete program and purge unused samples they remain in folder. contributing to your larger folders estimates

good point.

Space is cheap. You can get 1TB external drives these days at nearly nothing. 33GB is trivial.

That's very true but it would be nice to have an option to do it either way.

most of the kits that ship with the Ren only fill up pad bank A, and they are mostly one shot drum samples, very short. I crop all my samples when I dont need them. You obviously arent using the Ren like most of us are who make music every day if you've only needed 4gb for 2 years of making music with it. Just saying, if this can be improved on thats great, if not then it is what it is. I think we need the option to purge any samples or programs not being used in sequences, as of now it's on the project level. So as of now I use purge and I still have plenty of programs and samples being saved in my project that arent even being used.

I find it interesting how current design does not take space into consideration when saving projects however it is advised to keep your samples short for the same reason...

I guess one shots only and no loops/fills for now...law states 24bit few second long samples is prohibited in beat making, what's a sampler again

If you are using alot of plugins, hardware sound modules, etc., projects files will be significantly smaller.

This particular issue has not been a trending forum topic...but none the less, another improvement to make this a better product. In the meantime...there are ways to reduce your project sizes.

Additionally...wouldn't you have the same issue with using a hardware MPC?

The issue here is that when a sound is assigned to a program, it's considered used by the MPC. This isn't something new to the Ren. This has always been the case with MPCs. So I guess what we need to be asking for is for the Ren to be able to purge sounds from a program that are not used in any sequence.

The real problem is none of these sounds or files are deleted when you purge. They remain in the folder. Now if you build with out saving and you decide to purge, well they never where placed on hard drive. These purges need to actually erase file from track folder. Right now these debates are really over how it presently purges from your ram. So in reality these debates are as worthless as the actual purge.

I don't think it's necessary. Currently you can just delete the program and purge to get rid of all the sounds for that program. This that you are suggesting would do both in one step, but probably not really pertinent.

to purge samples from the file system you can use the following workaround for the time being.
1. purge your samples in the software
2. save your project with a different file name ("Save Project As")
3. move your previous project name/path into the trash can
4. restart/reload the project and make sure it loads fine.
5. empty trash can.

We're looking into the option of saving the samples or leaving them at the original location. If we do that, we can't purge samples from the file system, because there's no way of knowing whether or not a different project might need them.

I don't know how difficult it is to implement a system that doesn't duplicate samples (so excuse my ignorance) but I'm with InspectahEX on this one, I really hate the fact that I have a bunch of samples duplicated multiple times. Lately I've found myself either using kontakt, Battery, or Maschine (as a plugin) inside of the Ren (for my samples) just so I don't have to have several duplicate samples.
