Not sure the OP is even following this anymore but I respect your opinion on the Ren. I have to say the future is a bit muddy for how Akai will handle the progression of software/hardware and the Mac OS X. I'm still on Snow Leopard for my Mac Pro and it runs rock solid. No Mavericks for me. I held on to my MPC 2K XL to be on the safe side but I'm still making music. Difference of opinion and boils down to workflow and comfort. Just do you and make music.

I feel Akai will eventually get everything corrected.. by that time they would have already lost lots of customers

Been with Akai ever since they days of the 950 and owned/ have owned every MPC they ever made.

Akai has never gotten a single MPC right this is no different, the key has always been that every MPC appeals to certain individuals enough for them to tolerate it and use it.

What makes the MPC line stand out is it has to compete with it's past incarnations.
Unlike something like the Triton where the it's more like an evolution Triton>Triton Studio Triton Extreme then the M3 which is not a Triton.
The MPCs from the 60 to the Ren have always been more of a replacement for the previous than evolution.
It's why many of us have multiple models.

Well as a long time Triton user the thing that I liked about the M3 was playing chords from the trigger buttons.

By the time they got to the Extreme the Triton was a proven soldier so the M3 had expectations that were hard to achieve. :nod:

As bad as the M3 may have seemed what came behind it in the Korg line brings tears to my eyes. :(


The whole keyboard workstation market is pretty sad right now for the big 3.

No keyboard workstation has wowed me in the last several years.

I don't think any body really cares that they used the darker hip hop producers brotha. I think most thought they chose them on how we felt they ranked in favored producers. People not caring about how AKAI used the black hip hop producers is exactly the problem pk1. This is how AKAI is able to use coon imagery to reinforce stereotypes and all we do is laugh, get goggly eyed and give them our money. My position is anti-racist. Not caring about how the black people are being used (which is what you state) is racist. Not caring is the problem. This is how blacks were enslaved and no one cared.

Sorry for the milk my friends, but I felt it well to state this.

Hip hop has it's roots as a black/latino American subculture.

That is where it comes from, you can't change that, Akai are just marketing their products to that market segment.

Simon, take a look at those original video clips/ads and tell me if you see black/latino subculture, or do you see black face caricatures?

I do not know any blacks who act or look like that when they are making beats. These are microagression (subtle) forms of racism that blacks deal with all of the time.
