Official: 'Akai MPC Touch' - The New MPC

Yes, the touchscreen is cool and all but it really comes down to how much priority was put into supporting the workflow.

At first look, I dont think Ill be ditching the Ren anytime soon.

If they've really designed this product strictly with enhanced workflow in mind, than it will be a welcomed addition to the current lineup.

the feedback I've seen so far has been more negative side of things, which is sad. I don't think Akai will come with a standalone board anytime soon from the looks of it so, most of y'all shouldn't put you're hopes up.

the real concern should be the software more than anything. if the software ain't up to par the board (not being standalone) as well as the producer will suffer for it. trust me. I'm more excited about anything 1.9 right now. The software is the brains of all of these controllers anyway, since they're not standalone.

No idea what the device will operate like, so I can't speak on the TS or the workflow. This is what I'm seeing though:

Yo, the ergonomics on the touch seem off to me. You will get Quasimodo hump from how you'll have to hunch over the device to see the screen. Either that or you'll have to get an angled stand which will make the pads feel weird, IMO.

Look at how close the pads are to the edge of the device as well.... Nowhere to rest your hands. This is a Quasimodo carpal tunnel box lol.

You'll be able to tell a mpc touch user from their posture in a year or 2 lol

I just started reading the farcebook comments, and several times, Akai have answered people with the same copy and paste answer...

You're right on the money with that. I'm sure within minutes, my neck would start hurting.

this may not be all bad, if Ren/studio users can use an ipad app such as lemur to access the touch screen features.
standalone would have been the way to go. easy to have vst's freeze like other daws.
anyway looking foward to 1.9

So its the same MPC software but with touch screen capability. At least Ren users have nothing to upgrade to unless they want the touch screen luxury. Its your money, use it when you need it.

If it is going to be a stand alone box, I want to know what they intend on doing about the timing on it. Clearly the technology exists if the 60, 3000 and 4000 have near perfect midi timing.

If they do release a standalone, then they really gotta do something about that. I wonder how bad the software's timing is. I can't see it being that good either.
