Agree..it depends on the end user.

It does. And Maschine is great for what it does. And I didn't need to see an MPC Ren to jump on some bandwagon and start dissing Maschine.

Maschine is a software sampler that doesn't have the software sampling, sample editing, and program editing of the lead software samplers...such as Kontakt and Battery and several others. It doesn't have the same level of these features that every MPC has.

Maschine is a software MIDI sequencer. But is it really? Maschine is a software MIDI sequencer that doesn't have the same capabilities as the functions found in DAWs. While I don't need it to perform like a DAW at least give it the same capabilities found in the MPC 2000XL that was released over a decade ago.

This is all that I am saying and many..many Maschine users agree.

So pick an MPC.....MPC 1000, 2500, 4000, or 5000. Take their OS and create software that runs on a Mac or PC. Then create a controller based upon the design of your favorite MPC. Ensure that the controller operates 100% of the said software.....now you have the MPC Ren. If you don't need something like this...its completely understandable. But this is the product everyone said Akai should have made years ago....at least that is what all the producers featured in the NI videos have been saying for the past several years.

I like the concept of The Ren. The concerns that I have about it revolve around the quality of the Ren. Time will tell.

so far, it sounds better when you say it than when akai says it... I do believe that if any company would have a piece of kit like this... it should be akai. I hope they really did take some notes of their previous software issues and make sure this thing is tight when it drops... okay we all can understand an update or a patch here and there because it would take decades to fully test something like this on all possible and potential systems... however lets just hope they dont leave any major screwups in there and lets hope they dont overlook anything... also, lets hope they dont release an unfinished product with the intent on finishing the job once they recieved revenue from a few sales... many software companies do this these days and that would be a terrible thing to do in akai's shoes.

I agree with you 100%. Most people that have jobs they love put their heart and souls into there work. I am sure the inidividuals that designed the MPC Ren are proud of their work and will do whatever they can to make sure consumers enjoy it.

This is a common statement found on the internet. So I started to looks through Akai legacy products. I had forgotten all about Ak.sys! How could you MPC 4000 users let us forget this software for Akai samplers. This software is like the father of the MV and Maschine. It supports drag-n-drop prorgams and audio, external sample editors, etc.

It can be found on the 2nd Page of the Sampling Mode, after you changed the Playback Mode from Oneshot to either ADH or ADSR in the Sampler.

I'm not familiar with it, but if I had to guess, it was probably ahead of it's time!

It really was. It allowed you to drag samples from your computer directly into the Ram of the MPC 4000....and more. I had always wanted this for the MPC 2500.

I always thought this type of thing would have been very very nice with the MV series... I mean sure, you get used to doing it the normal way but what a time saver that would have been... it's also bad when it's faster to take out the 30 screws off the bottom plate to remove the hard drive so you can plug it directly into your computer than it would be to use it's USB connection.

Dude Maschine is at 1.7 now! Watch these on sampling and slicing. Video's 11, 12, and F-Major is breaking slicing, and sampling down in video's 27, and 28.

You should checkout the other video's as well because the Ren could be similar to maschine.

Yes I know. I do have Maschine updated. But 1.7 doesn't add the sampling, programming, and MIDI capabilities I found Maschine lacking in. I have been in numerous MPC/Maschine dates over the past years. And my stance hasn't changed in this regard. I am not talking about anything ground breaking...just basic features.

stan steez wrote:Well, finally we get some balance in this Thread going on. I guess my last post was some sort of wake up call. ;)

Okay, so now, on to deconstructing the next bold statement: "MPC 1k is more powerful than Maschine". Powerful in which way?

I can definitely tell you, where MPCs are not:

FX & Routing:
I load up a KICK on my Maschine, you Load up a KICK on on your MPC 1K.

- YOU put a Comp on there and maybe an EQ… FX 1 and FX 2. Maybe 2 FX on the Master section. That's it - end of story.

- Now watch me:

On my KICK on Pad 1, I put:

- Maybe a Pulltec EQ Plugin for starters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
- an API 2500 or an SSL Bus Comp… sweet!!!!
- a Gate
- and I still got a free slot for a 4th Effect

THEN I can send that kick to two other channels and send it to a Reverb maybe.
NEXT, I can Add 4(!) More Effects onto the the Group (or in MPC terms Banks), which that Pad resides in. And after that, I can still add 4 more FX on the Master Section… straight ownage ondatazz.

Plus, I got 16 virtual stereo outs. 1 for Ever pad… MPC 1K: 4+2…

Let's see how good AKAI can bite this… or better yet: let's wait til august. By then, I made like 50+ more beats ;)

yes sir! oh, and you can tweak these vsts while the shit is happening and the mapping to the knobs is pretty damn good.

and please, make more than 50 beats!

mmmm, I can see a lot of catfights out there !

IMO, musical gears wanting to do "everything" are less efficient than dedicated machines. That's why I've never been into this MPC5000 for example or some Phantom keyboards.
Same for cars ! A BMW X1 is a compact-city-family-SUV-sportscar ...... Meaning it's ugly and is not competitive in any of its wanted features, it's not even a Bimma no more !

I'm afraid Akai will do the same (not because it's Akai, just because this is what ALL companies do) .... How useless to plug some virtual pultec comp if the end of the signal is a crappy converter !
-> LESS IS MORE
We do music, so the best machine is the one you feel comfy with, not the one with more "this" or more "that", it's subjective as Hellfire said, fitting the way you make music.

I'm pretty sure that some OGs around here do bangers with a 3k and a tape recorder -> they are laughing loud when you talk about 80GB of samples and virtual API plugins.

I would rather add an ashtray/weed grinder than 12,000GB of samples and 14,000 miditracks to my MP .....
