Can I do all of the old with the MPC R?

Hi I am looking to buy an MPC.

I,ve been out of the music game for a while and I,m overjoyed that you can buy all the great MPCs on Ebay for next to nothing.

Although that may be telling me something.

Technology has moved on and I don't want to be dealing with floppys and 16MB ram.

I want to be able to do everything that you can do in the 2000xl, with the bonus of accessing infinate samples, cutting up mp3s, importing into Pro Tools etc.

I want to be able to

Timestrech like old mpcs
Chop and trim samples

Is it a good buy.

I,m getting prices for it on sites.

None of them are showing it as out of stock.

When is it due then?

MPC 2500 is basically the same machine as the 2000XL, with more features. You can also digitally dump audio into Pro Tools via SPDIF that comes standard with it, as well as digitally sample from CD.

I don't know why Akai discontinued that product. Araab probably would have sold a lot of those units with his growing popularity and the proliferation of "beat battles".

The prices are about the same as the MPC-R.

Which makes me think what makes more sense.

MPC2500 with limited support for PC.

Or MPC-R with full support of PC, fx and access to all of my 6GB samples. Plus I can drop straight into Pro Tools?

I don't think The Ren comes out until August. So if you have a lot of patience you can wait on it.

I would probably get a standalone MPC then have some kind of small savings plan for the Ren, I mean you have what 6 months before it comes out.


Plus I think you can make beats on the stand alone MPCs and load them up on the Ren later.so if that's the case, you can use them both.

Memory with PC connectivity.From my observation a real slight difference in harmonics. I mean slight difference.

5000, I don't really know anything about. You may want to do some research on it though. It comes with ADAT and stereo S/PDIF standard, that's 10 digital outs. But I can't speak for or against the 5k, haven't used it before.

Do some research on all of them. I think SoundonSound still has reviews of the 2500 and 5000 still on their website.

I just read the SOS articles.

Both have their pros and cons.

I like the idea of being able to connect my pc and drop samples onto flash card.

There is no digital outs on the 2500.

I was wondering how can I get the beats into a sequencer on my pc then?

I would like to create and edit on the mpc and then dump them into the pc.

I know some people might want to go from the PC to the MPC and then to a multi track recorder.

But the PC rules these days and it this is where all my work will be done.

Hence why the MPC-R looks the bomb.

studio/ren will have it's own daw like software Pretty sure since it's a controller you can control other sequencers into your daw also. It's even shown on som youtube videos what the software looks like.

I would like to create and edit on the mpc and then dump them into the pc.
Sounds won't be "held" in the studio/ren, sounds will be on the computer already, think as if it was a softsynth, controllers have sounds in them.

I know some people might want to go from the PC to the MPC and then to a multi track recorder.
Again, the ren/studio will come with it's own daw like software, it's multitrack, have you checked around to check whatever specs are available so far?

um...my 2500 has digi out, as do all. It a digital coax. I've got a 2500 and 5000, and I love them both. Sync up either one via MIDI to a DAW of your choice and you're golden. I still can't really think of a reason to get any of the new MPC's...other than gear lust. So...ahem...I'm copping a Studio and a Fly. Because I'm out of my mind.
