What you guys think about a custom dock shell that housed the mpcstudio along with your favourite sound card interface with a mac mini enclosed inside as the guts.. Then use a usb touch screen monitor as your interface.. I was thinking of doing this with maschine.. then akai announced the new line...

so you would need

mac mini
soundcard(i was thinking something like rme baby face as it has balanced in and out plus adat in and out and midi in and out.)
usb touch screen..
Of course you could just use the wireless keyboard and mouse if you wanted or needed to..

It almost does the standalone MAgic......
The shell would expose the back of the mac mini when it is fixed inside so you could access the ports.. and the baby face would dock right next to it.. Sort of treading into Neko land here. but not as monstrous...

I guess a workaround to have it more portable for those who just want it to be one portable unit...

I mite do it as a project... For fun...

Sounds almost like this new cool thing coming out for the Ipad...
Whats that thing called?
Hmmm...
I find it hilarious that all these new-jack-back-2-the-future type dudes keep creaming their jeans talking about "Standalone" mode...
Its not gunna happen. Software and Controllers are the future, McFly...

Lol....I understand the backlash....but do you think it makes sense to tote around 2 pieces of equipment when 1 could do the same job?

AS consumers we are totally at the mercy of the Committee of New Technology Sounds, or the C.O.N.T.S. for short.
But as Producers, we have choices: take a miss on the new product.
Hate on the new product, while clinging like frightened children in the dark to our old gear.
Jump into the fray, whole heart, zipper down, wallet in hand.
Wait and see what the early adapters say about the product.
Fantasize about "what they should have built."
Or, BUY SOMETHING ELSE and QUIT 8ITCHIN' on this forum.

Which choice do you think is most pathetic? The one that requires the skills of a armchair revolutionary, a hack, a fanboy, plus someone thats got money to burn, and loves voiding warranties.
I can count on my one hand the times Ive needed to take my 2000xl out of the studio...so being mobile is not the issue here, Its the QUALITY of the converters, ins and outs, and the SUPPORT and PARTS youll get to keep it running...

Until next time,

I've tried to take a 2000xl around with me too! What a rock.

What we have here is a spectrum of users. I really like the idea of mobile....it seems collaborative....something like 'oh shit...let me go grab my shit and you grab your shit and we make some music' ---- a hell of a lot cooler than...'hey you should come to my 'studio' some time...or i could come to your 'studio' and we could make music!'

Avoid trashing fanboys and armchair revolutionaries....the dreamers and tinkerers endlessly work to make the stuff agnostics like yourself can jump on and feel right at home.
