MPC REN / Studio vs. MPC 5000 Synth patches

So if I understand properly the MPC REN / Studio will read all previous MPC program files but if the 5000 synth is not ported (as they've said the 5000 effects are) to the MPC REN / Studio or MPC software how will it handle my project files with MPC 5000 synth patches included? Does it just ignore the 5000 synth parts?

This is a good question! I've never really played with a 5K outside of Guitar Center. How are the synths btw?

Anyway, concerning the synths, I guess it depends what format they are. When you load them, are they .Wav files spread across the pads in auto-chromatic mode? Or are they actually streamed from a rom chip or something?

I don't know how it works, but if they are .Wav files you load, then they should port over just fine. If they are played off a chip, then I say dont sell your 5000!

Actually, I'm surprised Akai didn't include the 5000 synth into the software, being it comes with 8GB of sounds.

The synth in the 5k is the same engine from the alesis ion, its ok I guess, but way too hard to edit properly. I dont think there is anyway they can transfer those since its actually a synth engine,

I HOPE they have some way better fx in this software than in the 5k, I mean I guess it wont matter too much since you can use vst's but the maschine has some decent ones included.

If it doesnt read programs from atleast the 25k 1k 5k that would suck, anything can read sounds (.wav)

It will read programs, but they may not always translate the same as the original MPC, being that some of the mpc's use different program parameters for filters and volume and such.

The specs say it can read any MPC, and Dan confirmed it in on one of the threads buried underneath all the shit lately. Doesn't mention the rack samplers though. I doubt it will be able to read the rack samplers, unless they use the same formats as MPC's. I've never used them. So don't get me to lying!

dont worry i aint selling my 5k. it stays no matter what comes and goes.

It plays from the rom. its not wavs. I dig the 5000 synth. some patches can sound a bit digital but I've warmed them up with my preamp or track them and warm them up a bit. but overall its a pretty decent synth. Some examples below... all synth parts from MPC 5000

Dope! Love the drums too. A couple joints sound like they could be on Yo Gabba Gabba. I don't know if you have kids or know what the show is, but it's a really HipHop oriented show for kids on Nick. My kids love it! Lot's of dope beats on there and artist features like ?uestlove/Roots, Biz Markie etc! You should see about submitting something!

that's the first i ever heard of that... i knew that was the case with the akai miniak... but where did you get this info saying that the 5k also uses this same synth engine?

I'd heard that the 5k synth engine was same as the ion before too. When the 5k came out. Cant recall the source.

so can the mpc5k therefore load patches from the ion/micron/miniak?
