I put together a series of videos that show some of the features of working with a software drum sequencer. Being that maschine is the current benchmark of software drum sequencer/sampler, I hope to show the workflow and the usage of a software drum sequencer that the current hardware users and novices may be unfamiliar with. Maschine current parameters and abilities are what I measure the future Ren/Studio to have and even surpass when they are released. This is not an maschine endorsement though the gear itself it great hence I use it also.

I work a lot with maschine and I like to have of the advantages of the new way of working along with the classic involve with the new mpc. I decided to show some of the aspects that I think that can be used as a guideline and benchmark for Ren/Studio development. I think also these may be helpful for current hardware users new to software drum machines and novices new to beatmaking.

Fmajor working the slice modes.

Software integration with presets listed and types

Creative Sampling editing

Dragging audio into a DAW from standalone

Finally just fast hands on working from the interface.

These videos aren`t a direct endorsement of maschine over Ren in no way. Though I do like maschine. They are show the how I envision the Ren/Studio software and hardware working together within a dedicated sequencer along with third party software. As of now within the software production workstation the maschine is the benchmark of integrated drum machines. Any development that Akai makes should match and even surpass this which I believe they will.

Pete Rock my first inspiration years ago to beatmaking using hardware.
In the end everything is based on knowledge on how to use the gear and a hell of an ear. Pete is one the masters of Hip Hop showing and telling it isn`t all just about the gear but what you know about music and how to make it.

FS Green another great inspiration that took me over from hardware to software
making everything with his ear and fruity loops. It is all about the producer and the musician in the end whatever software or hardware as long as we have an ear and we know how to get the sound we want.

Peace to all and I know that when the new gears hits the market all those who are concern makes bangers on whatever they want to use. Just learn your craft and forget everything else it is the music that counts.

I've been dancing with Maschine for a couple months now and spent a lot of time loking at videos and tutorials for it.

You've unearthed some new, helpful ones for me so thanks a lot.

No problem anytime I can help, maschine is a cool tool and I`m really looking forward to having the nearly the same and better workflow in the new Ren/Studio when they drop. (I love the mpc sequencer). However software does offer a lot of speed and convience to the current day artists/and musicians. The key is learning the workflows and techniques used on legacy hardware from the past masters like Pete, Primo, and along with the new like FS Green, Kev Brown, Ninth Wonder to make great sounds and music.

He just has a mike plug into his sound card (a duet I think) and recording into maschine like line in from a audio source. I do it to sometimes for vocal hits like Get down, Yokohammmma, and others. Just make sure your turn the mic switch off after you are finish so you don`t get the feedback going on.

A great sound card will be standard and then we go into the preferences
to make sure the card is selected and the routing is set up. Same will be for the Ren/Studio when they drop.

How the fudge is he recording samples from the mic internally? Is this only possible with Mac's?

On my Mac book I can sample directly into Maschine using the built in Mic. I actually just did it two nights ago to add a scream to my beat. And it's dope because you can sample while the track is playing. So I just threw on my headphones and recorded my piece right where I want, then just trim it and record it into the sequence. Don't know if PC works like this though. Haven't tried it!

Good stuff minus one obvious thing. You don't need Wire Tap to record off of iTunes or You Tube. If you have a sound card, audio interface, or keyboard w/USB audio with ASIO drivers...in most cases you can record directly from You Tube and iTunes straight into Maschine....no additional software or hardware needed.

What's Wire Tap? I use SoundFlower. I don't use an interface with my MBP!

Wire Tap is the software the NI guys encourage people to buy for recording off of the internet.

Until recently, I used my keyboards as my sound cards since they support USB audio.

Oh ok! Does it work for PC?
