Hi there,
I was working with an 2500 for a while but without DAW. I'm wondering what funkctionalities the R really has. I recognised that some people are quiet disapointet because of the missing HD. However, I'd be thankful if you could answer me the following questions. There might be people just don't get the advantage if there really is. Compared with an 5000 or 2500, when you connect it to your PC, if you apply a certain filter/compressor from your DAW (let's say Reason) to a single pad, will you be able to press the pad on the R and the effect is live applied on the pad. Or does the effect stick in the software.

With an 5000 you had the possibility to put the MPC sounds into the DAW. Is it correct to think, that with the R you kind of can bring the sounds from your DAW back to the pads? Is there any difference to a MPD 32 concerning that, is the difference just the built in audioinerface/phono in (less cables) and the vintage function (which is useful?)

I think with an 5000 you can bring the sounds from the mpc into the PC, but not from the PC to the pads. Is this correct.

What are the differences of "bringing the sound from PC back to the pads" if you look at the R and at MPD32?

Thanks for your technical answers

To make things clearer for you....

Laptop + MPC Ren = MPC 5000

MPC 5000 + soundcard + PC + DAW = (MPC Ren + Lap Top) + soundcard + PC + DAW

If you think it those terms, its easier to see that they both accomplish the samething.

Same thing, really?
You're saing that it's possible to play a sample with the pads of the MPC 5000 which ist stored on the pc. And if you choose a filter on your DAW you got it directly on your pads??? Is it? Maybe a mpd32 can do that but not an mpc 5000. Can an mpd32 do that?

Yes. You have to have your MPC connected via MIDI to your PC. Within your DAW, insert an instrument such as a drum kit on a track. With the proper settings, hitting your MPC 5000s pads will trigger that instrument. Add filters in your DAW to that instrument and your MPC can trigger it. All the audio is kept inside your PC. No audio is in your MPC in this scenario.

The draw back is that you have to save your sequence in your MPC and the project in your DAW.

Clear as mud? You can buy an MPC + Logic eBook on this site to give you all the details on setting this all up.

man you can trigger audio inside the pc with EVERY FVCKING mpc/midi controller/midi keyboard/whatever. no need to buy the buggy 5000 or wait for the vapor-ren to be released...

bypassing fx is possible if your software supports it.

Vaporware is a product that only exists as a computer model...no physical representation.

The Ren is an actual physical product that the Development Team is banging on pads and mashing buttons as I type this.

With other words, can one say, that the functions from an MPD 32 is fully includet within an MPC 5000?

One can also say, that the difference between MPC 5000 und Ren ist the HD, the Synthisizer, and the software, the audiointerface and of corse the back to oldscool vintage function.

I now have to choose from an new Ren, an old MPC 5000 for the same price like the Ren or I buy a MPD 32 for about 1/4 of the price.

It seems it's all about the mpc software which, i heard saying is kind of not neccesary cause people use a propre daw anyway. Or is the software really useful?

As for as I know now I would buy the 5000. Is that reasonable?

the main difference is that the 5000 can also run standalone. the ren requires a computer to run.

true. because of that i advise you to buy a 2500 or 1000 and the awesome jjos!! fvck any akai os. they´re whack. they can´t code!

kannst auch gerne mal im deutschen mpc forum vorbeischauen. link in meiner signatur!

A 'proper' DAW doesn't really have a reasonably priced integrated control surface. There are some control surfaces on the market that come close....but not on the level of the Ren and Maschine.

The software is useful if you need a sampling drum machine MIDI sequencer....

It stays a tricky decision. As I have a new laptop and no Audiointerface the Ren would be a possibility. For the same money I could get a 5000 which is a standalone in fact and even has a easy to access syntesizer built in. A cheap Audiointerface is not the point to bring the 5000 to the PC. Concerning the MPC software as a plus I still have my douts. The JJ OS ....maybe a 1000 or 2500 is an option. ARRRRRRRRRRRRR it's endless....

+1

ppl are so caught up in the software of the ren/studio, which in a sense is understandable but every mpc has software, the ren/studio's software just so happen to be on a computer.
