Sample Record Mode

I own 5 hardware samplers, and several more software samplers. There has yet to be any company that completely nailed what I would like to see is a Sample Record Mode. So using all my samplers as inspiration, here are the features I would like to see implemented in the Ren:

1. Input Select Source. This is where you select the audio source for recording. The options I would like to see all available Inputs and Outputs of the Ren or the 3rd party audio device used instead. It should also support USB audio...so I can record devices the send audio over USB. I would also like to see any available CD drive so I can record directly from CDs like the MPC 2500/5000. I would also add dynamics such as EQ, enhancer, noise suppressor, center canceller, compressor, limiter, etc.

2. Stereo Switch. The Ren should have Stereo or Mono recording. When recording Mono, users should have th option of record Mono-L or Mono-R.

3. Threshold. This is where you set the recording threshold level. When the Ren is armed to record, once an audio signal reaches this preset threshold, recording should start automatically.

4. Time. Set the amout of time you want the Ren to record.

5. Sync. An option to automatically start/stop recording based upon the sequencer. So if I set Sync to 4 bars, it will record only 4 bars of the current sequence.

6. Divide. Hitting this button while recording will create a new sample without stopping the recording process. This function is like slicing while recording.

7. Waveform. I would like to see the waveform of the incoming audio while recording. The JJOS128XL can show the waveform of incoming audio even when not recording. Niiiiiice.

8. Insert FXs. This is a must have feature for me. I would like to be able to Insert FXs (up to 4 of them) directly into the path of an incoming audio signal. This should include 3rd party effects. I would love to be able to run audio through a Neve plugin and sample it.

9. Save To. The ability to save the sample to RAM or directly to disk.

10. Program. I would like to be able to quickly assign samples recorded to pads in any available program.

11. Auto Normalize. An option to automatically normalize a sample while recording.

12. Bit. Ability to record in 8, 12, 16, or 24 Bit.

13. Sample rate. Ability to set the sample rate for recording.

14. Monitor. Selects whether the Input Source will be monitored while recording

Wow #8 insert fx, would be perfect! I dont understand y they wouldnt put that in ... Thats such a easy thing to add with a huge impact on buyers, do u know what possibilties u can open up with that feature alone? Love this ideal, hope its not to late

Peeps have been suggesting chopping incoming audio for years now. Sound Forge and Audacity lets you do that. Maybe it'll show up. A lot of the other features are implemented in different samplers. I'm lucky to already have 10 out of 14 in my hardware. That's actually not such a bad list.



* OTOH this reads like a hedging post so that when/if a feature shows up you can take credit for getting it included.

Not to start another shit storm but alot of these functions are actually available in mpc 2500 with JJOS. Im suprised Ren has not covered these features for 2012 machine.

1. Is sort of pointless, since you already hooked up to computer you can connect just about anything to it your interface allows for. Computer does support USB audio, you can also send audio over USB with a computer. Since Ren is attatched to computer with CD-Rom drive, you can already do that within the computer. As far as using dynamics, I thought Ren already comes with these features. $70 version of sound forge has them if Ren dont.

2. Pretty sure MPC 2500 with JJOS got this, not sure about other MPCS and standard akai OS.

5. I believe this feature on JJOS is called audio tracks.

2000xl does this.

I feel like I'm missing something here. Perhaps I'm not understanding the meaning of this post. Because I'm almost certain you can set the amount of time you want the Ren to record. I even know the max time it can be set to record.

Are you suggesting these functions should be in the Ren, because they aren't currently? Or are you just saying everything you'd like to see in it, some existing and some aren't...? Pardon my confusion.

i think he's just throwing out what should be encompassed in record mode. I don't believe this list is saying the ren doesn't already have it. like some of you said, some of this list is standard on most if not all mpc's.

like when you press record, a new window would pop up or something. maybe you can set defaults so you don't always have to see the pop up unless you press edit default or something.

The MV can do most of the list . Divide and Sample rate are out but the rest can be done. The MV is capped at 16 bit but you can drop th depth down to an unintelligible 1bit.

The odd thing is that these features should be on the Ren if they've been on the 8000 since 2004. They added the three chop modes to the Ren so I don't see them not adding the rest.

Note that the MPC 2500 w/JJOS is one of the 5 hardware samplers I was referring to that hasn't completely nailed what I would like to see in Sample Record Mode.

This thread is not about Ren vs your favorite sampler. These types of threads are immediately locked by the moderators until the Ren is released commerically.

You're basically saying you want a MPC 4000 with some new JJOSXL features.

8 bit sampling would be pointless...IMHO.

8 bit would be useful if it emulated chipmusic or had some kind of Sid chip processing plugin,or synth.




But only a small percentage of producers would know how to freak that shit.

Let's be honest at this stage with no new information threads like serve no real purpose but to keep people engaged in this forum so they don't loose interest in the Ren. Fact is, at this point members are just making sh!+ up to talk about.
